Winter 14/15 How to play "A to Z"

A to Z (A-Z) – Read ten books, whose title are in ascending alphabetic order, while the author’s last name is in descending alphabetic order:

15.1 The B east Within by Émile Z ola
15.2 The D ay of the Triffids by John W yndham
15.3 The F east of the Goat by Mario V argas Llosa,
15.4 The H ome and the World by Rabindranath T agore
15.5 The J ungle by Upton S inclair,
15.6 L ove’s Work by Gillian R ose
And so on.

A letter can only be used once for titles and once for authors. For example, you cannot use both Jane Austen and Isabel Allende, but you can use both Adam Bede and Chinua Achebe.

For titles, only the title of the most popular English edition will qualify. In alphabetizing titles “A”, “An”, and “The” are not considered.

If a book has multiple authors, the first author listed will be the one considered. Author’s last names will be determined by the conventions used at the Brooklyn Public Library:

Scoring:
15.1-4 - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th books = 15 points
15.5-8 - 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th books = 20 points
15.9-10 - 9th, 10th books = 30 points

Completion bonus: 100 points.


A few notes:
I. You cannot claim regular style points for any book you read for A to Z (nor do the A-Z tasks count as combo style points for Reading with Style's 10 and 20 point tasks).

II. All books read for this sub-challenge must be at least 100 pages, based on the most popular English-language print edition.

III. Please be aware that cookbooks, illustrated guides, and graphic novels are not allowed for the sub-challenge. Also, books designated as "YA", "Assignment", or "Juv" by the Brooklyn Public Library with a Lexile score less than 800 are not allowed.

IV. You can complete A-Z twice, but cannot repeat title letters or author letters.
