I could be interested. :) I'm reading The Penguin History of New Zealand but it is slow going for me. It's a big book & I have a lot of group reads on the go now.

I would be keen for this, I need to venture out a bit more and have been wanting to read more NZ Authors at least.

Cool! Sometimes a group read is the way to get through the good, but challenging reads. :)

The book pool in this group is a good way to start Carlene. But I moderate a couple of groups & I never get offended if people pull out because they don't like the book. I pulled out of one read Night and Day in another group - just wasn't for me.

Will try to join the book pool but am limited as I cannot drive or move about and i need to get to the library to chase up the new books!

I'm so sorry, PDR! :(
Are there any rereads you would like to add to the pool?

You might also like this book that's been released just recently on the history of NZ women during WWI, but not listing on GR yet.

And for anyone wondering I can now use my new knee and walk. It is amazing, after being a hunched up cripple I can now stand tall on my new hips and now walk with barely a limp. It almost makes the pain and misery and discomfort of this year worth while!!!

How was Christmas as well?

I just cut out carbs and dairy and that works a treat. I'm doing that for 8 weeks starting on Monday. Got to eat lots of veggies

Glad to hear you are walking freely again P.D.R. Being pain free makes a huge difference to your state of mind. Almost a whole new life.

Diet is smaller portions and lots of exercise as I eat mainly fruit and veg plus some meat and fish. No sugar or sugary carbs ever anywhere, Don't like it! So it must be exercise is the key.
Hasn't this summer weather been wonderful?
Anyone enjoying the summer film season? I've been going twice a week to catch up on so many good films. Vincent one is next - it's all hand painted stuff - and then there's the Churchill one on Sunday evening. I thought Dunkirk was brilliant and am looking forward to this one too.

Pleased to hear you are mobile again. You might like this book about Churchill becoming PM. Very well written and researched, and enlightening. Six Minutes in May: How Churchill Unexpectedly Became Prime Minister
I think you are quite right about the diet. I also don't eat sweet, sugary foods or much in the way of carbs, yet I'v managed to add the pounds lately and the only thing that has changed is not walking the dog every morning - she can't manage much on her wobbly legs now. I went out without her one of these lovely mornings just recently. She sat at the window watching me leave, and when I got home she looked so sad. I'll swear she had tears in her eyes, and wouldn't let me out of her sight for the rest of the day.

Diet might be working with the extra swimming added. It's a beggar this getting old.

Yep. Just go to My Books/Want To Read; locate the book you want to remove and on the far left you will see and X. Click on that X to remove the book.
I'm sure the book goblins get in and add stuff to my lists - both Want to Read and Read. I know I'm aging but I'm not that senile yet and know I've NOT added them myself! :)

I was swearing and cursing in the currently reading section.
And it's definitely gremlins or goblins, Carlene, because I've never even seen, heard of or looked at the YA which appeared.
How are you, Lesley? Recovered form all the disasters of last year?

Okay. It's the same for these books. You just go to My Books; under Bookshelves on the left of your screen click on Currently Reading shelf ; now click on the X that is on the far right of the book you want to delete.
After doing this just check the title isn't now showing as Wanting To Read. If it is, remove it the same way from your Want To Read shelf. There's another way that involves hovering, but you just stick to this one! :)

What x on the far right? I cannot find one anywhere. I get a Pin image for pinterest, I get a square thing which frames the cover when clicked upon, but no x on or near the cover, the title or the blurb which pops up.
In currently reading press update progress. Then you get the choice (bottom towards the right) to update progress or cancel. Top left you get I'm finished if you want to record your read as unfinished or a similar shelf.

But she's not wanting to update her reading status. The book has appeared on her currently reading list when it shouldn't be there at all. Update/cancel only cancels the Update.
I don't know how to take a snapshot of the screen I'm looking at to show the X to remove from my books. Do you?

I don't see anything to do with a pin image!
You need to be in My Books/Currently Reading shelf. The X to remove the book is on the far right - past date started/date read/date added/ edit view columns.

Here's another way to do it working on your PC or laptop - don't think it works from a device using the app.
1. Go to the GR book page for the book you want to remove that is showing as currently reading. Do this by clicking on either the cover or the title of the book.
2. On the GR book page you have the cover on the left; the title and details to the right of that with the blurb, editions etc., below.
3. Under the cover picture you will see a dark green 'drop-down' tab; to the left of that tab is a grey strip with 'currently reading'; in front of the words currently reading is a yellow tick.
4. Hover your mouse over that yellow tick and it will turn into a light grey X.
5. Click on that X to remove the book from your shelves.
Sorry I can't post a screen shot (or series of screen shots). I'll get that worked out one day. :)

Yes, that worked Lesley. A hover on the tick got me a cross and I got rid of those books.
Still can't do it the other way as the x is not appearing. I blame this computer of mine which is developing a nasty will of its own!
Thank you for your patience! I owe you. Want an e-copy of the much amended and quite different Bittersweet I was allowed to publish or of the new one - Boer War Girl? (working title) when it's finished?

It's long listed in two of the three comps I entered so I am glad more people are beginning to buy it and read it. It's not just me thinks it's okay!!!! That's always a worry. One puts heart and soul into the characters and the whole story and so is always too close to judge effectively.

I've been trying to find this thread so I could wish everyone well and hopefully see how differently everyone is coping.
I myself am having to work from home for an essential business, besides the environment my work days haven't changed much,
I do feel like I haven't been able to read as much as I thought I would during the lock-down, maybe because really I am still working.

I'm missing my local library though. :-(

I've been thinking of finally trying out some audio books, I'm currently still taking calls for work so have been listening to music between calls coming through.
I'm just worried I may not like the narrator or be able to focus as good, but I won't know until I try!
Hi Everyone!
While others frantically hoarded toilet paper, I went to the library & borrowed some books. The Ockham nominee I most wanted to rad was already on loan & I do regret not grabbing another - but I do have plenty of books on hand already.
At first I didn't feel much like reading but a couple of favourite authors (Rumer Godden & Georgette Heyer) got me back in the mood.
As a nephew said on his vlog - previous generations went to war, this generation has to stay hoome & watch Net Flix for 3 weeks! (he is in Quebec)
The two outside my control events in NZ that are making me sad is Bauer deciding to shut down some iconic NZ magazines. & however they are trying to hide it, our local council can't recycle while we are Level 4. We are going to hold on to our glass & take to the transfer station ourselves as I don't think the method they are proposing to use sounds safe (black plastic bags in the wheelie bin) for the workers. Since I keep jars for preserving & the cider we drink comes in plastic we don't have much glass anyway.

I ended up placing a bunch of books on hold from the Libby app, they've all since rushed in at me and I've had to put them on a longer hold for others to read first because I hadn't even finished the ones I first had. I'm not going to mention the small pile I got out from the library a bit before the lockdown, or my shelves of TBR books.
That's crazy Carol, are you in a more rural town for them to suggest that they aren't going to do the recycling?
I saw the Bauer shut down on the news and though I don't really read the magazines, unless on the off chance someone brings in the old ones from work I was shocked they shut down for good.
Carlene wrote: "That's crazy Carol, are you in a more rural town for them to suggest that they aren't going to do the recycling?"
Yes, fairly rural. & even at the best of times my husband has seen the recycling go in with the rubbish. I believe the paper/cardboard recycling is normally sent to India & that option isn't open to them.
My husband has flattened & held on to the larger cardboard as well as the glass.

I've seen a lot of people have finally jumped on health buzzes (I have slightly jumped on, I'm at least going for walks) or baking buzz (I cannot back so passed on that) and learning some dancing or picking up new hobbies.
Has anyone picked up something new, or restarted something?
Hi Carlene
We both decided to lose weight. I've lost 4 kilos & my husband has lost five. I was helped by not feeling very hungry at the start of lock down, but have been walking & doing yoga.
I've made cheese with a kit my girls gave me. The mascapone (sp) & the ricotta, the mozzarella ended up as ricotta as well.
I also made sauerkraut for the first time. My Canadian side of the family is from Nova Scotia & some German food is popular there. I've never cared much for sauerkraut, but mine turned out very well.

Reading has been on a go slow for me. But the kitchen has never seen so much action!
I hope my children won't be expecting the same level of baking when they finally return to school!!!
I cant even concentrate on my writing, although you'd think being locked down at home for seven weeks would get my almost complete novel finally competed! But no, with a house full of children, and a husband who is normally overseas, I can't seen to concentrate on anything remotely creative.

I had a bunch of books I put holds on for the couples of weeks and only started 1 of them :(
