Shogun was read as a side-read, so we did the same thing with the Classical Chunkster - if it wins, it wins and the group is reading it. JoLene, do not delete your nomination, please. As for War and Peace, let me see when we read it. if it was more than two years ago, we might try to nominate it again. Sometimes, new members want to read it, and they also have a right to vote.

I've been looking at the length of this book and Iselin and Rosemary's comments. I'm still keen but had a thought. Zulfiya, could we make this a year-long chunkster buddy read? Would others want to give it a go? Over a year it's 10-15 pages a day.
Just joined this group and I see that A Suitable Boy has been nominated :-) I've read about half of this book twice and not finished it so a group read would probably be the push I needed. Although I don't think I'd start from the beginning yet again as after two goes at it within a couple of years I can remember what I've read very well.
I'm going to withhold any nominations this time around. There are a couple already nominated that I would love to read, but I'm not sure about the time I have on my hands. I guess it all depends which one is the winner.
I think it should be up either today or tomorrow. I am sure Kristie is monitoring the situation, and will respond soon.

"Lisa - I am actually SLOWLY working my way through this monster of a chunkster, and would be interested in at least part of this buddy read with you guys. However, this book is one in which even 10-15 pages a day is going to seem like a lot after awhile. I find with this book I need to read it very slowly...like read 10-15 pages a day for two weeks, then take a break. Its almost too much for me to read faster, and I don't want to force it!
I am considering this a multiple year journey for myself. BUT, if the group wanted to read it as a buddy read, I would join in for at least one of the seven "books" that compose this epic. Actually, as a start, why not just read one of the seven parts and see how group participation is? I think even the first book is over 800 pages so could, by itself, stand as a chunkster.

That's right, all three books are included. The author was also an accomplished painter, and that fact bears a lot on the way the book has been written.
