Werner | 109 comments My friend Glen R. Stott is a Goodreads author, with an active profile (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... ). At some point, somebody created a redundant profile for him (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... ), which needs to go, or to be merged with the active profile. The simplest way to do that would be to change the author's name in the latter profile to Glen R. Stott, and then to select the active profile as the one to keep.

The problem is that Glen isn't a Goodreads librarian. So, when he goes to the redundant profile (logged in as himself) and clicks "edit data," the program doesn't recognize him as a Goodreads author trying to edit his own data; it just sees him as a "lay" member trying to do a librarian's job, and denies him access with the message that he has to be a librarian to edit. I, on the other hand, can get as far as the editing template, and add the R.; but when I try to save the edit, the program immediately recognizes "Glen R. Stott" as a Goodreads author, and similarly slaps me down for overstepping my bounds, while it refuses to save the change. It's a perfect Catch-22 situation, in which it's apparent that the program will allow nobody to do anything.

Is there any way out of this impasse/ Anything anybody can suggest will be appreciated!

Scott | 9030 comments Only staff can handle GR author profiles. Fortunately there is another way, the books on the other profile can be moved, and I have just done it. It may take a day or two for them to disappear from that profile and appear on his.

Werner | 109 comments Scott, thanks for your help, and sorry I didn't acknowledge it sooner (things have been hectic on my end this past week!). Your intervention did correct the problem, for practical purposes. Now I've found another redundant profile for the same author: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... . Can you do the same thing there, or explain to me how to do it?
