poc (people of color)
Yes! Wylie is like the only main character who is in the whole series!
Sela wrote: "Yeah, otherwise ppl are all white. So much for Shannon saying their world was nice and diverse."Lol yeah, wait what about Wylie and Prentice tho

yeah

the thing i hate about it is shannon used like five different ethnicities to describe them. like chinese and vietnamese names then 'kpop idols' or 'anime' which are korean and japanese, separate?? hello??
and the fact that they have the lightest eeye color despite asians having very dark eyes ay caramba
other poc characters are like. wylie maruca livvy/quinlin emery and mmmmaybe luzia vacker, and all of them are very very side characters
so yeah, the lost cities arent exactly diverse.

another thing is that they say they dont have gender roles but all the girls are always in gowns n stuff while the dudes are in tunics and pants. doesnt really sit well
personally i hc tinker as agender tho, just because i'm also agender and the vibes ,,, :>

yeah. it was sorta like with The Lunar Chronicles. Marissa Meyers literally described New Beijing as so steroetypically Asian it was ridiculous

Yeah that was .... :/
see, this is usually the part where I turn to Alex Fierro and say “that’s some bull.”this is why I love riordanverse the most

There still might be some hope for LGBTQIAP+ rep with Marella and Linh (I ship them so hard lol). Linh doesn’t like Keefe but “not for the reason you’re thinking.” And Marella and Linh have been spending extra time together working on their abilities? Ik it’s a stretch but I’m trying to hold out hope because some good rep would make me really happy haha

yeah... which is luzia. the vacker family, as in the very wide one, has apparently a wide range of skintones, body types(which. the lost cities?? literally only skinny people the only diversity in that i could see is like. more muscular or difference in height idk). so its not impossible for the main vacker family to also be poc in the movie/s
and literally one person is not representation in the slightest, i feel. its like having brownie points.
the series is still overwhelmingly white.

Fthe lost cities claims to be very diverse and stuff, but... you can barely find any.
sophie was brought into the series to prove that the lost cities isn't perfect, and so many flaws are made, but those flaws are about the government and laws, and the weird matchmaking system (FOR THE CISHETS) so. :|
along with the thing they make exiled CHILDREN go through?
ik this is the movie topic theres just. a lot of stuff going on

So true
Aren't there a few council members that look like the non-regular typical white person though? (so like they look hespanic or coloured) There is a portrait in Unlocked.
Patronusgranger12 wrote: "Aren't there a few council members that look like the non-regular typical white person though? (so like they look hespanic or coloured) There is a portrait in Unlocked."yeah pretty sure there was a couple of people
Yeah, the councilors are actually pretty diverse
They are but I feel like they actually have a lesser say in what happens. I know they're all supposed to have a say but I feel its mostly the "main" councilors who get the actual say. (BTW im to lazy to write there names so...)
Patronusgranger12 wrote: "Aren't there a few council members that look like the non-regular typical white person though? (so like they look hespanic or coloured) There is a portrait in Unlocked."
and those councillors literally havve like 3 lines each and then are tossed aside :|
the main councillors are oralie, bronte, terik, kenric(rip) and bronte, and emery is the only 'black'(shannon claims that the lost cities is raceless but i think its a kinda lazy way to get out of writing nonwhite characters) one among them while the reest of them are white. it doesnt matter how many poc characters there are if the main crew are predominantly white.

ack yes!!! ok heres a confession: i wanna be biana so bad, and even tho i know that i prob wont get the part, its still cool to think that maybe they will cast a jew/latinx/asian mixed racial person (me lol). i dont look like any race, so maybe!! and yes! maybe make someone like edaline black or asian or something!! idk it would definitely be so cool to see all the diversity.
yeah it would be really great!! i've seen a lot of fanart that shows the vackers as people of color (like the main vackers, not just luzia) and I think that would be cool :) also about the movie, gahhh I just hope other than the casting they keep everything eXaCtLy tHe sAmE even though it's doubtful lol. also, daveed diggs as elwin pleeeease haha
THAT WOULD ACTUALLY BE SO COOL AAHA

I totally agree with needing more diversity in the Lost Cities, but I will not agree to seeing any of the beloved characters that I have grown so fond of change into a whole different new person, just to fit modern movie criteria. Shannon created the characters to look how they look, and sure maybe if one character has freckles when they're not supposed to or maybe he/she has to wear contacts to have blue eyes, that's okay - but changing their initial race and sexual orientation does not work out for me. I don't want to offend anyone and their opinions, but this is just mine. :)
yeah daveed diggs plays jefferson/lafayette in hamilton :) also I respect and understand your opinion

i mean, have you seen shadow and bone? they managed to diversify their cast and the fans still adore it
they're not a whole different person, just their appearance
i won't mind if the cast is the same as the characters, but it would be cool to see it.

one of my mutuals brought up that shannon follows miya cech
and i literally got so excited because if this is our sophie i will simply evaporate

honestly, if they changed the appearance of the characters to include more poc that would be epic actually
