Thank you, Joanne! I am going to add that to my tbr.

Amy, which "American Princess?" Are you talking about:
An American Princess: The Many Lives of Allene Tew

message 103: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12921 comments Nope, that’s not the one. This is a historical fiction about the daughter of Franklin D Roosevelt. I have it with me on my front seat. Let me grab for you the actual name of the author. It’s Stephanie Marie Thorton. Its quote is from Kate Quinn. And the authors of my dear Hamilton. This is been on my TB are literally for months, and the book has been sitting in my hallway for months. I’ve been very excited about it. I would love it if you would like to read it too.

message 104: by Joy D (new)

Joy D | 10083 comments Oh, OK, I was going to offer to read it with you if it was the one I listed (which I already own).

message 105: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12570 comments Oh Joy-you have done it again....adding the one you mention to my tower!

Which one is it?
American Princess: A Novel of First Daughter Alice Roosevelt?

American Princess: The Love Story of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry?

Okay, now I see the answer--I was on the previous page since I didn't make it here yesterday. Hmmm, I'll have to think about this.

message 109: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12921 comments Opening line had me immediately hooked. I actually had the thought, can a person tell a 5 star read, or top ten book from the first line or first page? Conversation idea for Jason or Theresa.

It is about Teddy Roosevelt's daughter.

For me, this is true. My 5 star reads all start with compelling opening lines and first pages.

message 112: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12921 comments BnB, I discovered that within seconds! I am 7% in, and I love every word of this book! I am newly obsessed with the wonderful Alice Roosevelt!

I thought that it would be one you would like. She is an extremely interesting woman.

Jemima Raven (jemimaraven) | 405 comments I'm reading:

A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

also
The Girls in the Picture and The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb both by Melanie Benjamin

I'll have to check what else I have that fits the TAG.

message 115: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15526 comments My cousin, who has been sleeping in my livingroom, left today. As I was deflating the aerobed, I cast my eye over the bookshelves that had been hidden behind it. Lo and behold, I spotted The Chili Queen by Sandra Dallas. Set in late 19th Century New Mexico, it looks to cover mail order brides and brothels in the wild west.

Well, I can take a hint! I am starting it today as my November theme read!

message 116: by Sara (new)

Sara (mootastic1) | 770 comments On a whim yesterday I picked up First Founding Father: Richard Henry Lee and the Call to Independence. Lee isn't talked about much in conversations regarding the Founding Father's, so I'm excited to dive into this one.

I will be interested in how you liked this. I love books about the founding father's and finding out more about someone I know little about is right up my alley.

I am always saying that I want to read more about our Founding Fathers and the Revolutionary War, and yet I never do....

Maybe I need to come up with a personal challenge next year that will encompass that. I have been kicking around the idea of setting a personal nonfiction goal...

If you do, I am in with you. I have more books about the founding fathers than I ever manage to read. If I had it as a challenge, I think I would manage a few more and we could learn from each other.

Maybe Sara will join in as well.

I will keep that in mind! It would be something unofficial, but being able to chat about the books would be a huge plus! And, to get some recommendations on what I should read.

I'm fine with unofficial, just having it as a challenge with somebody else provides enough accountability for me. And it is nice to have somebody to talk about the books with.

message 124: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12921 comments I just wanted to say what a unique pleasure it is to have friends from all over the world. I really am joyed waking up far too early on a lazy Saturday morning, and who do I see has commented on Goodreads over the long night? It’s Kate, Susie, Idit, and Jemima! Love the representation from another far corner of this world, and we are all connected. Just wanted to comment that there is a certain joy in that. Didn’t know where to comment on that, so I threw it into the November Tag....

I would love to do something like this. I have so many books on my TBR that would work for just such a challenge.

I'll be sure that this isn't one of those books that I skip writing a review for since their seems to be some interest in it.

So looks like we have a nice little group for this.

I've been wanting to say to you Sara, that I am so sorry that I missed you the times I visited Pittsburgh (I love that city), but I was always so involved with taking care of my mother, that I didn't have the time.

Sadly she passed away in 2017.

I would have loved for her to see your yarn because she was very into crocheting and knitting and I still have some wonderful sweaters which she made for me.

My sister still lives there, so it is still a possibility.

I'm glad to see that you are active again at PBT.

It’s been a crazy busy month for me. I also found joy in reconnecting with all my bookworm friends here on Goodreads. Lovely to hear from you again Amy! I'm hanging out for 'The Sun Sister' to arrive now...seems to be a delay in publishing, but it will arrive sometime soon I think.

I'm so sorry to read about the passing of your mother.

It would have been great to meet up, but I fully understand the demands of caring for a loved one. That is why I've been so absent myself for the past couple years.

Sara, thank you. I'm glad to see you back on PBT again. I hope that means that things have worked out for you and yours.
