THOUGHTS
- Oh no. The Heart's Invisible Furies absolutely will kill me. I can see it coming, even with 200 pages left of the book.
- Oh man. Heart's Invisible Furies will 100% leave a mark on me for a while.
- Reading time will definitely be down this week since I have to spend my afternoons grading research papers. Too bad they don't have an ISBN...
- Dear Girls is so... crass. I love it.

THOUGHTS
- The Book of Longings just became a contender for the best book of the year. Wow.
- Having a hard time reading and getting into anything after The Book of Longings... it's tough!
- I switched to 1x instead of 1.25x for listening to Island of Sea Women because the narration felt too rushed, but I'm really missing the feeling of just cruising through the audiobook... especially for this one, which I'm just not enjoying as much as Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane.
- Only one book finished this week.. a bit of a bummer, but it was so hard to get into anything after The Book of Longings!

THOUGHTS
- I don't know if I'm moving slowly or if the two books I happen to be reading now are both SO SLOW but man... it's hard to get these two finished.
- Took a small detour from ATY to do some side reads (the ticker saying that I'm 3 books ahead makes me feel like I have wiggle room), but it's back to ATY with The Gifted School for a book inspired by something in the news.

THOUGHTS
- I gave Gifted School 4 stars, even though I don't think it will stick with me very long. It was pretty good, but the characters weren't super memorable.
- I'm definitely feeling like an in-depth historical fiction novel is called for right now... not too many emotions in Philippa Gregory's work, but I think that's what I need.

THOUGHTS
- Love finishing books on a Sunday... means I don't have to leave that "Books I Finished" category blank for long, and, in this case, it adds to the books I've finished in May!
- I'm so angry about what happened with Henrietta Lacks, and that doesn't really help when I get on social media and see all of the injustices to black people going on still today. It's all so infuriating.
- It's so hard to concentrate on anything right now, while the world is up in flames.
- Ugh. DNF'd The Cuckoo's Calling. Was 100% not what I wanted to listen to right now.
- Started Pride Month off with Dear Evan Hansen, but it was definitely not as LGBT as I thought it was going to be.

Hannah Peterson | 700 comments Sorry to interrupt your weekly tracking here (I can delete!) but I LOVED Middlesex. Talk about a book that I just tore through because I couldn't put it down - I was so entranced by that story that I read it in less than two days flat during the Christmas holidays a few years ago (and it's not a short book). I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

No, please comment! No interruptions here!

That's great to know about Middlesex. I have quite a few chunky books on my list for Pride Month, and I was worried about getting through them all, so I'm glad Middlesex is a mover. I read The Virgin Suicides by the same author and found it weird but quick and I really enjoyed it, so I'm hoping for the same from this one.

Whoops... it's already June 4th and forgot to post about May.

I did pretty well in May, thanks to a push on the final weekend where I finished three books. My favorite books came at the beginning of the month, but I definitely finished May on a strong foot with a couple 4.5 star books. Met my diversity goals as well, and finally caught up from the disastrous March.

THOUGHTS
- It will probably be a slow reading week for me this week because I start grading AP tests on Thursday, and I'm going to be grading for at least 6 hours a day. Not sure I'll want to look at a book after looking at a screen for that long.
- I finished Juliet Takes a Breath so quickly, and ended up going back and changing my rating on it after talking it through with a friend who also read it this week. It really hit home for me and I can't stop thinking about it.

JUNE

This month was NOT a reading-focused month for me. The start of summer was surprisingly busy, and, while I did have some great reads, it was just not as immersive as I hoped it would be. Here's hoping July moves slower and I have more time to relax and read!

JULY

And that's a wrap on July and the summer for me. I start back at work on Monday, and August has always been a tough reading month for me. Fortunately for my reading (unfortunately for my happiness?) most of my school events that fill August have been cancelled, which means more time for reading? IDK. July was a weird, stress-filled month and I'm honestly glad to have it behind me.

Ann wrote: "Emily- How have you liked the jar of reading prompts? Think of trying it this year."

I really enjoyed the jar, but with libraries closed, it was a bit difficult to stick to the pulled prompt all the time. It worked for me through the summer, but I stopped pulling prompts later in the year. Towards the end, I did a combination of picking a prompt and choosing a book to go with it, and picking a book that I knew would fit the prompts left.

Ann S | 624 comments i thought about two jars one for books on my shelf and one for books i need to order. i could pull one from each jar every two weeks. read one while order the other.

I pulled prompts, rather than books, so that did help a bit with not having immediate books available.
