Elizabeth that sounds really fun! I don’t care what age range the book is wrote for. It’s it’s good, it’s good & I’ll read it.

William- I haven’t read the hog but I’ve read some of WHH’s other stuff.

Well... a certain Silver Shamrock Publishing have just signed me for a novella called The Malan Witch, coming out in June 2020 - I'm still celebrating the news, I can tell you!

I also have a novel coming out in February 2020 from Flame Tree Press called The Garden of Bewitchment and have just signed a contract for a third novel with them - In Darkness, Shadows Breathe - which is slated to come out in 2021 (probably January). So it's all go at Cavendish Castle (er - well, I can dream, can't I? Actually it's an apartment, but Cavendish Castle has a certain ring to it ;) )

That sounds fantastic. The Willows is one of my all time favourite stories, I listened to it again just this week. I haven't read The Hog but I've enjoyed WHH's other works so it'll go on the TBR for this week too.

Kathryn (kathrynmeyergriffith) | 42 comments Kenneth asked: Here’s a question for all the authors -

What can readers look forward to from you in 2020 and beyond?

I'm working on my 29th novel right now...the sixth Spookie Town Murder Mystery, All Those Who Came Before. This last decade I shifted from horror to thrillers (my best-selling Dinosaur Lake 5 book series) and murder mysteries, my Spookie Town Murder Mysteries, and my fans won't let me stop writing them! I've never seen a reaction from my fans like this - and I have been writing since 1972 (whew, 48 years!). I hope I am invited again to write a horror short story for you Ken. I haven't been invited yet. Witches and Witches II by Kathryn Meyer Griffith Three of my most beloved books have been my Witches (1993) and my Witches II: Apocalypse (2018) and my A Time of Demons and Angels (2010). I enjoyed being in this amazing collection. It was fun writing another ghost story and I was honored to be among such a group of great writers. Thank you, Kenneth.

Alan Clark (alanmclark) | 113 comments Jon Recluse wrote: "Jack London visited Whitechapel......even lived in the slums...."

Yes, he did. He was there during the festivities surrounding the coronation of King Edward. Of course, playing the pauper and living on the streets for his investigative journalism effort, he was probably encouraged to "move along" with the rest of the homeless so he would not embarrass the new monarch.

He also went hopping in Kent, just as Catherine Eddowes had done the week prior to her murder by Jack the Ripper 14 years earlier. He stayed in the casual ward of the workhouse as she had done. He worked in the workhouse proper, as did Polly Nichols, although I think he broke rocks whereas she would have picked oakum. THE PEOPLE OF THE ABYSS, Jack London's book on that experience, helps us understand what life was like for the victims of Jack the Ripper because London did many of the things they did while just trying to survive in the city of London's East End.

I've been writing a lot of new fiction the past couple of years. My latest novel TOMB OF GODS releases next May through Flame Tree Press. Set in Egypt in 1937, a team of archaeologists and soldiers explore a cave tomb that seems to lead into the ancient Egyptians' version of hell. All sorts of monsters and horrors stalk the hapless expedition.

I've also written a collection of horror fiction that is currently titled NIGHT STALKERS. It includes several short stories and a new modern-day wendigo novella, THEY STALK THE NIGHT. I aim to release the collection in 2020 or 2021.

message 540: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 620 comments This was a wonderful and enjoyable collection. I greatly appreciate the time and effort of our moderators, who run the best group on Goodreads, and the talented authors who wrote these fantastic stories and spent time with us over the last month. Forgive the lengthy post below, wanted to share a few thoughts on each:

Devil’s Dip - a great start to this book. Frightening imagery that stayed with me, and left room for interpretation of what was really going on.

Tug of War - wow, what a gut-punch at the end. Devastating and disturbing.

Euphemia Christie - great atmosphere - the graveyard setting coupled with Marie’s compulsion to solve the mystery engrossed me. Creepy and a real feeling of desperation at the end.

Justin’s Favorite – I like the way it kicks off with the killer phrase. Great building dread throughout, and the reader takes away the knowledge that this will happen again…

Holes in the Fabric – I really liked Norma, her determination, and the way that it peeked through the bleak ending.

Dog Days – Very clever way of telling this story, and I liked the transition from longhand letter to text message at the end. I want to know what happened to the letters!

Drown – I liked the story being told through the experience of a ghost hunting couple, and the past coming back to the town.

Those Who Are Terrified – Scary and melancholy, I liked the element of justice at the end, and all the twists and turns.

Cool for Cats – Fun twist by putting us in the shoes of an unlikeable protagonist. I enjoyed waiting for her to get her comeuppance.

Russian Dollhouse – I love the Halloween and haunted house theme. Great, frightening depictions of the goings-on in the house.

Sawmill Road – This was a fun read for me - loved the setting and feel, and I’m a sucker for a story about kids going to check out a local legend. Great resolution to the story, too.

Bettor’s Edge – Great twist on the usual “night in a haunted house” storyline. I liked the full-circle ending. I guess Morton wasn’t a great dad ;)

The Graveyard – Great setting, very creepy and suspenseful. The kids drew me in – great narration. I just wanted to yell at that little guy to run.

Join My Club – Very compelling – so sad and dark. Left me wondering if Timmy’s fate was much worse than what he was living with.

The Cemetery Man – Great dark humor, very imaginative plot, and I liked the way the story unfolded.

New Blood, Old Skin – Scary and fun, I loved the monstrous embodiment of writer’s block, and the notion of embracing what is within you.

The Glimmer Girls – Loved the blending of supernatural revenge with a real-life horror story. Great, frightening imagery.

Haunted World – Great depiction of the town and the slowly building sense of complete doom was very well done.

Ghost Blood – Inventive and grim, leaving the reader with a dark feeling despite the fact that Neil and Tracy survived.

Last Call at the Sudden Death Saloon – Fun and horrifying at once, with an old-school, comic book feel. Very creative.

The Ring of Truth – Great integration of supernatural and real-life horrors. Good foreshadowing and a gut punch ending.

The Gravedigger’s Story – Great main character and an emotionally evocative story. Loved the ending.

The Putpocket – Inventive and touching, absolutely great atmosphere. Loved the father and son relationship.

Swamp Vengeance – Great setting here, vividly described. Good characters caused my loyalty to shift as the story unfolded.

Portrait – So bleak, sad, and disturbing. Great imagery and a really scary ending. Might need to reread this one to try to get a deeper understanding of this family.

I'm working on the final act of my 12th novel, VOODOO HEART, which will be out in October 2020 from Flame Tree Press. Hoping to finish a draft in a couple weeks. I am supposed to turn it in by Jan. 1, so you know what I'll be doing on Christmas vacation:

I am proud to have been part of it, and to have a story in this great anthology. Hunter (goathunter) | 75 comments Robert McCammon is working on The King of Shadows, the next book in the Matthew Corbett series, which will hopefully see publication around Halloween 2020.

He has actually taken a brief break from that to write four short stories for his A LITTLE BOOK OF AMBER collection for Borderland Press, publication date TBA.

If you missed it, he also wrote a short short called "DST, INC." for a Noir at the Bar event a couple of weeks ago. You can read the story for free on RobertMcCammon.com, and you can also listen to a recording of his reading of the story at the event.
