At least 15 years old. I haven't read it in at least that long, so details are sparse.

The title or the author's name had "Max" in it. I remember the author's name sounded suspiciously made-up.

Somewhere towards the beginning of the book, the main character, a traditional knight/hero, finds out that his wife was actually his wife's twin sister and they were trying to see if he would even notice that they switched spots. This was after he had to battle his way to the castle gates.

I THINK the book frequently broke the fourth wall, but I could be wrong.

The way things were written, it sounded like this was part of a series that assumed you knew things from previous entries. It was so satirical, however, that it might have just been part of the style.

The cover had a prevailing yellow/orange color palette.
