Sarah and Deborah I would like to have a general chat thread where people can ask questions about the group or just mention things; stories they are excited about, a book they just bought, a new beer they tasted while reading... Would that be appropriate and can I go ahead and start it?
That's fine with me!
If I seemed harsh in the Neil Gaiman thread, it was only because the same two people started five threads in the space of ten minutes about one obscure non-short-fiction author. I don't mind discussing Gaiman at all, but there was a clear agenda that irritated me.

So just to reiterate: there *is* a section for self-promotion and celebration, because there are a lot of writers in this group and YAY! If either of those people were the author, they would be welcome to post about their new book in that section. If they're not the author (which I'm kinda guessing they are), they could still promote down in that area. If they were talking about short fiction, I might have given the benefit of the doubt.
But I don't have any patience for sock puppets who come in and shill in the threads without any regard for the focus of the group.
