Week 9: Spot 79:
Monster in His Eyes (Monster in His Eyes, #1) by J.M. Darhower
Book:
Monster in His Eyes ( Alt read: Black cover)
Read: 1/18
Rating & Review: ★★★½.
Well, I like the author's story telling but this one was plot has been done quite a number of times. Carissa chose to be blind or stay in the dark. I think Naz was who he had always been. Naive college girl and a mystery man with an air of danger and he paid for everything with cash and said he belong to a family that isn't related by blood, but by ideals.
Carissa, you are in college, so you should know what that means! Wake up chica!
I still enjoyed it and will read the sequel.

Black Widow (Elemental Assassin, #12) by Jennifer Estep
1/19/15 4 ★

Review:
This is a hard one to review. I wanted to like it so much more and in the end, I liked it a lot but it wasn't spectacular. So much was great however, so it's only little niggling things that kept it from total greatness. Gin is hoping for a quiet life but Mab's daughter needs for her to die in order to fully grab control of the underworld. And she succeeds. It's a fast paced ride with all the regulars there to help. But it's almost too fast and I didn't get to hang with every one quite as much as I would've liked. But it's still a good time!!

White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black
Book:
White Cat by Holly Black Alternate: Black Cover
Finished: 01/19/15
Rated: ★★★

Review:
In this book we follow Cassel, the youngest of a family of curse workers. He doesn't fit in at home or at school, and he is still feeling guilty over having killed his best friend Lily. Soon he starts dreaming of a white cat, and people around him are losing their memories. Then he starts to wonder what really happened to Lila.

This book really confused me in the beginning. I didn't really know where this book was going. After having read about 1/4 of the book, I started to understand the plot and the world that was built and it instantly made the story better. I liked the main character and I look forward to see what will happen in the coming books.

Anita Reads | 436 comments I have access to 3 of her series, so I was hoping she was a good writer. It definitely got better as the story progressed, and I think that now that I understand the world it will get better in the next book.

I also plan to read these two series at some point:
Modern Faerie Tales
The Spiderwick Chronicles

I've just had White Cat on my TBR list the longest :)

Spell of the Highlander (Highlander, #7) by Karen Marie Moning Book 7 in series
1/20
4 *

This is book 7 in the highlander series and is a continuation in the Kelter Druid/ Faery series.

Jessi, an overworked graduate student and teaching assistant, has been requested by her boss to sign for a package while he is in the hospital. The small package ended up being an ancient mirror. The mirror contains an imprisoned man. The man that put him in the mirror is desperately looking for the missing/stolen artifact.

Over 1,100 years ago, Cian Kelter was forced to live in an enchanted mirror and would have remained there had Jessi, an archaeologist graduate student and teaching assistant not been persuaded to summon him from the mirror. Cian’s enemies are on the prowl for the two and end up in Scotland. With the help of Cian’s descendants, he and Jessi work some magic of their own in order to outfox the baddies and allow Cian to live freely without evil magic lurking.

The ending wasn't what I expected and will be continued to book 8. I really like how this series gives the reader a chance to revisit all of the favorite characters in past books.

I loved the writing and the story setting. it also had a City mouse/country mouse feel. I didn't mind the BDSM elements. what bugged me the most was the way the triangle felt unbalanced. my usual problems with ménage books are when the relationship is unbalance and someone get short shrifted. a good read but short of stellar for the one reason mentioned and the (view spoiler) which does nothing for me.

I haven't gotten around to read any of her books yet, but I do have both her fever series as well as this series on my TBR list. Will get to it eventually.

message 365: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1052 comments Anita, the Fever series is very very different than the Highlander series. I read her Highlander series first and then the Fever series, expecting it to be similar. So not. Once I got into the Fever series, I really liked it. But you have to like YA Urban Fantasy.

Roger - the very few menage books I have read - I would agree with you. The ones I didn't like had unbalanced relationships.

Debbie - I could read them all again and be happy! I have the whole series in paperback - which I don't read anymore (eyes) and I'm having a hard time parting with them!

I despised the Fever series and swore off KMM, until I read the Highlander. I feel in love with that series in audio thanks to Phil Gigante

message 370: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1052 comments Ezi - I definitely have a love hate relationship with the Fever series. The first time I attempted it - I had never ever read UF before and I hated it. Stayed away from the series for years. Then as I read more and more UF, I attempted it again. I became slightly obsessed with it and had to read the books back to back. But I still found myself really annoyed by certain things and it's certainly not one I would read again.

I have a vision problem and the print on paperbacks "swims" and makes it very hard to read. And as I've gotten used to ebooks I find it annoying to have to turn a page. I keep trying to tap!

One of my problems with KMM is that she loves these huge cliffhangers and makes you wait 1-2 years for her to give you the next installment

Hated Fever series due to cliffhangers and not answering questions within the series. I think I own whichever is #1 of the Dani series........haven't even touched it....don't want to go back. Fought the urge several times to not throw my e-reader across the room with that series.

I actually quit it after book 1 because I thought it sucked. MnG got me to read book 2 because I forgot to delete them from my TBR and I just decided to alternate KGI and ghostwalkers.

now I think I will need to tackle Anita Blake

message 379: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments Sorry ~ I can't do Anita Blake - besides the fact that I don't own any of them - I always got them out of the library (how is that for my library lol) her 'needs' got to me in the end and couldn't continue (really that would have pissed me off whether the character(Anita) was female or male quite frankly)
This same sort of thing happens in her Meredith Gentry series too ....again why I quit that one.

Melissa - Remember when I was reading it during TTII? I was screaming about the cliffhangers. I did read the one about Dani and was not very happy with it at all. Haven't decided about continuing the series.

I have to admit to not being a huge Maya Banks fan. Have tried a few of her books and just not my cup of tea.
And I've also steered away from Anita Blake from all the things I've heard. I have the first Meredith Gentry book on my nook as I've heard this series is slightly better, but I still hesitate.

Ezi, if you are up you are welcome to roll at midnight!! I will not be up as I have a breakfast meeting at 7:30 tomorrow.

Week 10, Rolled an "11"
New Space: 90

Read a book that is Standalone, 0.5-ish books**, 9th or 90th in a series
Alternate choice: Red Dress on the Cover

** Prequels that start at 0.5 are okay as long as they are at least 150 pages per goodreads
Ex.: Made (Forever, #0.4) by J.M. Darhower (530 pages) or A Touch of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #0.5) by Lara Adrian (182 pages) or Again the Magic (Wallflowers, #0.5) by Lisa Kleypas (386 pages) or Forever Ours (Shattered Hearts, #0.5) by Cassia Leo (210 pages)

with a zero we can't do first in a series but their are some books that are called zero in a series.
