If you lived in world of ASoIaF, would you rather live in a world with dragons, or live in a world without dragons?

Saidah Gilbert I loved that too. I always loved the Daenerys chapters. For me, it seems to put the shenanigans of the other characters in perspective. The ones on Westeros: we're fighting for the Iron Throne. Daenerys: I have dragons.

Adam Meek Kenny wrote: "Let's say you lived in this world, what would be your opinion?"

As a Westerosi peasant my thoughts on sharing the world with giant, flying, man-eating, fire-breathing, armored monsters that can be used as near invincible weapons by inbred tyrannical madmen to dominate the world? "I'm agin it!"

They're cool to read about, but you don't want a GRRM style dragon around your neighborhood.

Dr Rashmit Mishra NOOOOO , it'd be nice to read about them and be fascinated by them but they can kill you in an instant and you can't do a thing about it , it'd be like Dinosaurs except they can burn you up as well

Razan With dragons, of course. it's dangerous and all that yes, but still.

K.N. Salustro Dangerous as it would be, I just could not say no to live dragons. Yeah, it would be awful to have one come swooping down out of the sky, ready to fry you to a crisp and / or eat you, but if we had a scenario where the dragons were under some degree of control and did not raid the countryside whenever they felt a little hungry, it could be pretty awesome. No one could ever dispute the ruling decrees of whoever owned the dragons, but I personally could not pass up the chance to see a live dragon, even if they turned out to be the wild animals GRRM imagined them to be.

Angela Nock I would live with dragons, especially as my son seems to think I am one ;)

Annemarie Donahue Absolutely want dragons. I have no concern for the consequences of this. Dragons, please.

with Dragon of course ...

Phil That's like saying "would you rather live in a world with or without nuclear weapons?". Even if someone "controls" them the potential for devastation and loss of freedom is horrendous.

Ah but we already live in a world with nuclear weapons. So it will be normal Earth, then?

Well there is a thing such as nuclear deterrence. In world you describe many nations would have to have dragons. As if to say you burn down my cities and villages I burn down yours.

Phil But, given the choice, would you rather live in a world with nuclear weapons or without. The threat of an enemy leader burning down my village is something I'd rather live without even if my king would burn down one of his in retaliation. Imagine if terrorists started breeding dragons.

Annemarie Donahue I'm probably being childish, but I don't really agree with the dragons to nuclear weapons analogy. I see that they can both be used as great and terrible weapons, but dragons have always had a consciousness in the majority of myths. A bomb is a cold dead thing, a dragon is (well, not it's not but it should be) a living animal with (according to many legends and stories) a will. So while terrorist could bread dragons they would also have to invocate said dragons to their ideology, which could prove difficult. Also, as many terrorist organizations do exist and few to none have managed to get their hands on the expensive and rare ingredients for a dirty bomb I don't really worry on their ability to get and care for a dragon's egg.

Having said all that, I still want dragons to exist. I just want them to be like modern day cats (which is pretty much what they would be) they like to keep warm, eat a lot, sleep more, and will probably kill us all eventually... just not today. :)

Adam Meek If GRRM style dragons did magically appear in our world, they'd be killed off pretty quick-- shot down by Anti-Aircraft fire, harpooned by poachers in their sleep, baited with poisons.

Drogon was injured by a crossbow bolt in the arena, a 50 caliber slug or a Stinger missile would easily do him in. A good shot, like in the eye, with hunting rifle might even do the trick.

The Maesters somehow poisoned the old Targ dragons and slowly killed them off over 300 years. A little polonium in a sheep a carcass-- here on Earth we could wipe 'em out in three weeks.

Dragons are hard to conceal and harder to control. Everyone on Planetos knew that Dany had dragons, long before they were grown. In our world of Interwebz and cellphones, it would be even harder to keep it quiet.

If terrorists did get a dragon, they'd be wiser to slaughter it and sell its bones for traditional Chinese medicine. Then they could buy more conventional weapons.

Annemarie is right, the analogy with nukes is flawed. Nukes are much better weapons than dragons. A nuclear ICBM is unstoppable, and can hit targets anywhere in the world within minutes.

Dragons, while tough, have been stopped with medieval weapons. And how long it will take for Dany to get her dragons to Westeros is anyone's guess.

Lady Theresa Runnion It would be so cool to live in a world with dragons!!

Jordan 2 things- 1: What is ASoIaF? What is the name of the "world" where the 7 kingdoms, and the game of thrones series takes place? And 2: I would LOVE to live in a land of Dragons, I would love to BE Daenerys! She's a bad bitch!

A Song of Ice and Fire is the name of the novel series. Game of Thrones is only the name of the first book and the TV series. The world? I don't know. But the country's (well continent's) name is Westeros.

There's no official name, but fans have come up with several. The two main contenders are "The World of Ice and Fire" and "Planetos".

I like Planetos, as it fits with GRRM's names for the continents (Westeros, Essos, Sothoryos, Ulthos) and The World of Ice and Fire is a mouthful.

Cathy Rawls I'm all for dragons!
