Autumn | 2 comments I wasn’t able to finish the book before my phone was broken and I lost all my data. It’s a kindle book that I read sometime between October 2018 and May 2019. I am not sure when the book was published.
I cannot remember any names to save my life. I wanted to say it was Scottish or something like McKannon or MacKinley or SinClaire as a last name or something like that.
It’s a historical romance (1600’s?) and the woman lives with her dad and she’s not married and one day the laird or whatever his status is (maybe a baron or marquis) comes by cause the two families are kind at odds. The woman’s dad is below the status of the laird or whatever he is and so to stop the conflict and get money he marries his daughter off to the laird guy. This will also allow any of her future kids some land and prosperity.
The laird guy was previously married or maybe just had a lady that he got pregnant but he has a son? who is adorable and who he pretty much just keeps in the tower. The woman and the kid are good together and she teaches him. It’s cute. She even kicked out his previous tutor and began teaching him herself.
The laird also has his brother’s widow still living in the house and she’s a pest who thinks she runs the household. The woman who got married to the duke is super sweet and independent. She’s assertive and does what needs to be done even if it requires some blood, sweat, and tears.
She cleans and helps restore the estate or whatever it is and is good at getting shit done. She manages the estate the best she can and deals with her moody new husband. She has servants at her disposal but still does a good bit of the cooking and cleaning herself. She and her laird husband are intimate a few times and he’s a bit of an jerk. He ignores her a lot or nit-picks everything she does.
I think I’m at the point where she’s probably pregnant but nothing is confirmed. Also the laird guy is also a knight or just one of the head commanders for the king or something so he has to leave for a bit.
When they first got married I want to say that the little ceremony occurred at her father’s home. I don’t think she and her parents get along too well. She marries the laird and it takes a number of days for them to reach his estate.
They take her marital bed with them and I think they set it up in their new quarters. I believe she refused to sleep on a bed that the prior woman had slept in. I think that when the woman and her laird husband got into arguments she would go sleep in the servants’ quarters.

The book is NOT “The MacKinnon’s Bride”.

Autumn | 2 comments He may not have been a laird. He may have been an officer of arms. And I think the marriage bed thing I talked about before was a bedding ceremony that’s performed in medieval times by some Celtic cultures.
