Giuls | 5 comments Hi everyone :) I'm new to the challenge, I definitely need some kind of motivation to read more of the books I own and this seems the perfect way to do it!

Annette Jordan | 108 comments Hi everyone, Annette here from Dublin, Ireland. This will be my first year doing the challenge and I'm aiming for Mt Everest. I read a mix of digital and physical books and due to a bad bookbub habit have accumulated a lot of books that I am hoping to tackle in 2020

Sophia (sophiarose) Howdy, all!

I'm a repeat offender, ahem, climber, and I am happy to be back. I won't even say how many books are on my TBR pile, but its in the four digits. I enjoy meeting and talking books with other readers so feel free to drop in on my Sophia's Climb anytime. I'll be heading up Mt. Everest this year and hope to reach the summit. I've only made it all the way the year before and got close last year so I'm determined.

Cheering you all on to your summits as well.

Nikki (nikki_framke) | 21 comments Hello to the other book hoarders of the world. I'm Nikki, new to the group, and this is my first time joining the climb. Between my physical, digital, and audio books, there are over 800 books in the possession of my household. I'm completely guilty of buying more than I read, so this seems like a good group to join to keep tabs on reading my own books and not the library's! I hope to "climb" a mountain of 50 of my own books in 2020 with the greatest intentions of reaching higher altitudes.

message 60: by Lexi Rose Reads (new)

Lexi Rose Reads (alexisschroeder9) I'm excited to do this for another year. While this past year I read a lot from my TBR most of my reads were for the Virtual Mount TBR challenge. The goal this year is to read more from the actual books I own. I don't know what my goals for next year will be yet, but once December starts to wrap up some I should have a better picture. And once finals are over next week I should have more time to read and figure out my goals for 2020.

KeenReader Hi Fellow TBR mountaineers, I'm in!

I am going to attempt to scale Mt. Ararat but with a slight twist. Every book I read from my TBR piles counts as a step up the mountain and every book I buy is a step down (gulp!). By the end of next year I WILL have a smaller TBR mountain.

Oh that's a cool idea! Are you counting all books (e-book, audio) or just physical? I would be at the Earth's core if I did that. I acquired over 700 books this year between e-book, audio, and physical, between purchased and free. Heh...

I am counting all books, but I don't beat myself up over what I bought before I decided to get a handle on my buying.

One of my most effective tricks is to shop my TBRs. I usually have a book I am desperate to read from my stash which is my next planned read, but if I buy any books before I get around to it, I have to read them first. That has really slowed up my buying without making me feel I miss out. I also borrow new "must haves" from my library, so I don't miss out on new books.

It works for me!

La_mariane | 43 comments Hello fellow readers, I'm La Mariane. I did the TBR Mount challenge four or five years ago, and I'll try again in 2020. I've bought lots of books and only read a few… I'll try to read 12 of those books that languish on my shelves, and see how it goes!

message 68: by Carol (new)

Carol (cquan01) Hi! I’m Carol from the East Bay (outside of San Francisco) though I am originally from NY. This is my first time joining. I just signed up and hope to complete this challenge along with the 52 Weeks Challenge. I would love to use books that I already own, though I will probably still be adding new 2020 releases. Since this is my first year, I set my level at Pike’s Peak.

message 69: by Carol (new)

Carol (cquan01) I finally figured out why my posts were not showing. I was trying to post on the app instead of the website!☺️

This is my first year joining this challenge. In fact, I didn’t read that much until this year. Already my shelves and ereaders are out of control!!! I am going to start this year with Pike’s Peak. I am doing this challenge along with the 52 Books in 52 Weeks Challenge.

Carol (cquan01) Hi Annette-I am from Dublin too, but the one in California. I think when people originally settled here they came from Ireland and the green rolling hills reminded them of their homeland. Many of those hills are covered with track homes now. 😳

Jenni is on storygraph (sprainedbrain) Hi, all! 2020 will be my third year climbing. I made Mt. Everest in 2018 and that's my goal again for 2019, but it's 12/14 and I'm only at 80 books, so...

Clearly, I read a lot of new and library books this year and neglected my huge TBR piles. I'm going to do better in 2020!

message 75: by Chili (new)

Chili Hanson (chilipinkcat) | 18 comments Hi all! I just found this group (thanks Jenni) and I really need help motivating myself to read some of the books I own. Even though this is my first attempt, I’m going for Mount Everest. I need the room on my bookshelves or rent another apartment for my books.

message 76: by Aspasia (new)

Aspasia | 6 comments First time book challenge participant here (of any book challenge). Between my hectic schedule (family, work, school), working in a library, and my love of bookstores and book signings, I have created quite a book collection for myself- and I don't have the time to read them. Before I turn into a full-fledged book hoarder, I hope this challenge will help me clear out my shelves a bit.

message 80: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dean (mmeblue) Hi all! 2020 will be my third year to participate in Mount TBR. I'm waffling on which level to choose, though. For 2018 & 2019, I've done Mount Blanc and it's been a good fit. But a lot of the remaining books on my TBR list are longer and will require more time to read. So I may end up going for Pike's Peak this time, so I am less tempted to choose only the shorter books. But I still have a couple of weeks to decide...we'll see!

message 84: by Rokkan (new)

Rokkan (rokk) | 5 comments Hello!

I'm back again, and once more aiming to kick another 100 books off my TBR list. If I can get to the top of Everest again (I've managed it the last couple of years) then I'll push onwards, but I might be getting this TBR under control. I think I bought less books in 2019 than I did in 2018... that counts, right?

message 85: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 57 comments Hi! I am back for my 4th year. I'll be a couple of books short on reaching the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro (60 books) for 2019, so after some consideration I will go back to Mt. Ararat (48 books) to start 2020. Looking forward to the new year!

message 87: by Leigh (new)

Leigh (aguamenti) | 3 comments Hello! I’m Leandrea and this is my first year doing this challenge! I’ve got way too many unread books and my goal for 2020 is to decrease that number as much as possible. I’m aiming high for Mount Everest but I’m confident since I read 100 books last year and 124 and counting this year!

message 88: by Jadetyger (new)

Jadetyger Sevea Hi, folks! I can't remember if I posted my intro yet (my mind is Swiss cheese). I'm Erika, known as JadeTyger on Goodreads. This is my...Fifth? Sixth? year in the challenge. I keep hoping to put a dent in the mountain, but I keep buying books! So, I've dedicated 2020 to reading some of the older ones, in order to clear out room. :) Good luck, everyone!

message 89: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 6 comments this year was a great reading year for me, even though there was some months that was down but even then I did read, I just didn't post them here. So I'm hoping to have a new year where I have more great books to read, and if I don't get to them then I'm not stressing out about because reading is fun and you shouldn't stress out about

Lexie Lucas | 15 comments I live near a half price books outlet, so I've really let stuff pile up and am hoping to slim down my physical collection before moving out of my parents :) This is my first year!

message 96: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (summerwolf) | 41 comments This will be my second climb and I’m looking forward to it! Being a single mom, working full-time, and going to school... I don’t have nearly as much reading time as I’d like. I should finish school mid-2020 so I decided to try a higher climb this year. I’m pretty excited! 😊

message 97: by Sue (new)

Sue S I'm Sue from Australia. I will be starting off the year with 221 books on my physical TBR and will be attempting El Toro. I usually read more than 100 books per year but some of those will be Book Club reads that I don't have yet, and I have a terrible charity shop book-buying habit. This year I started with 180 books on my TBR and read 103, but the TBR is now even bigger...

message 98: by Carla (new)

Carla B (carlamwestyahoocom) | 52 comments Third time's a charm?
I think I finally have my email verified!!!

My name is Carla and I'm from SD. I read all kinds of books, I don't think I have a type that I pass by as a rule. I get excited every year as that's when I make my reading goals. I'm not very good at all about keeping it up to date online, but am a list maker and "keeper tracker" on paper. I usually make my goal as pages read, this year I've decided to make it by the book. My goal is 60 books and I should be able to do that. I read 82 in 2018 and I don't have my count in for 2019 yet, but of course didn't log anything here even though I signed up for the challenge, I have my pen and paper notebook.

My downfall is finding books I own that are part of a series and then I need to go back and read the other books in the series, that really makes it tough for me to read the books I own. This year I need to work on getting over that compulsion and just read them!

Another "complaint" there are too many thriftstores here and town and the books are TOO cheap! Our local Salvation Army has paperbacks 10\$1 and hardbacks 4\$1! So it's really hard to pass those by.

Anyway, I have a few months left of cold weather, which translates to non-guilty reading time, and I'm currently on night shifts at work so can read there too in my downtime.

I look forward to being accountable to others ;0)

Thanks,
Carla
