Liz smiled and rolled her eyes at Deese's dorky commentary. "Honestly, at this point, I'd just like to eat something. If you don't like where we're sitting, find somewhere else and we'll eat there."

Hadrian was rather confused as to why his father had referred to his mother like she were nobility, but his father's behavior often left him feeling puzzled, so he (for once) decided not to question it. He'd probably just receive an even more confusing answer, followed by one of his mother's smiles and yet another confusing exchange between his parents.

Deese shrugged. "We can eat here. I have no objection to here. I have an objection to having a hungry wife." He practically snatched the food out of Hadrian's hands and shoved it at Liz. He smiled at her a bit too widely. "Sorry, son, it looks like we're going hungry since Mommy has to eat."

Liz's brow creased into a frown. "Deese, I didn't mean for you and Hadrian to starve. You both need food just as much as I do, don't be ridiculous." She sat down and once more placed the food she had been carrying (although this time with the addition of that which had been taken from Hadrian) on the table. "Sit. Eat. Don't worry about me; I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself."

"It's called humor, Liz. I thought I would try it. Maybe you should too." Deese's lip twitched up into a half-smile against any conscious consideration he gave the gesture. Liz had set the food on the table, and Deese stared hungrily at it. "I don't suppose that we may be allowed to eat the food, Liz, would we?" He smiled at her despite the teasing tone in his words.

"I don't think you've stopped being humorous since we've met. Humor is kind of your thing," Liz pointed out. "Not that I mind of course. And please, don't let me stop you from eating." The last bit was said with complete sincerity, as a hungry Deese was not a very fun Deese at all. Sometimes, Liz joked that Deese just might love food more than his family.

Deese laughed. "I wasn't about to not eat. Food is good. Food is very, very good." He said that last sentence around a mouthful of food. He wasn't even sure what was in the food. He just stuffed it in his mouth. He nearly spat it all back out when he saw that Hadrian was copying his eating habit.

Liz turned to the source of Deese's surprise and emitted what most would consider a very unlady-like snort. Hadrian sat there with the majority of his food crammed into his mouth, mid-bite. Realizing his parents were staring at him, he frowned in confusion. "Wha' I do?"

message 58: by [deleted user] (new)

Deese just laughed. "What makes you think you did anything?" Of course, the answer to that was probably pretty obvious, considering both Deese and Liz were still staring at Hadrian. Deese reached out and ruffled his hair to distract him -- such an oh-so-effective technique, obviously. "Liz, we're going to have to get to the city soon. Which would be fastest? I was thinking the main road, but d'you think that safe?" He decided to speak in a foreign language they'd both learned a couple years back while working with their old group.

Hadrian was miffed that his father thought he could be subdued with a mere ruffling of the hair and "hmph"ed in reply, going back to eating.
Liz thought for a moment, partly because she was a bit rusty in the language Deese was using and partly because she still needed time to gather her thoughts. "If speed is what we're focusing on, the main road might be quicker, but if you take into consideration the chance of running into someone who recognizes us, another route would probably be for the best."

((Are you still interested in all our RPs, or should we try to limit the number of them in the interest of time? I'm just curious is all))

Deese nodded. He'd suspected as much. It would have been nice to take the faster route, though. Asha would make a room at a tavern ready for them. There would have been proper beds and no travel so much sooner. He huffed. Deese turned to Hadrian. "And what do you think?" It was not likely they would be able to take much of his opinion into consideration, but they could at least make their son feel included.

((i am extremely interested, but this year i made the oh-so-smart decision to join 3ish clubs at school on top of my dance classes 4 days a week, 30ish library books, and my extreme amount of homework. i'm starting to get most of it under control but i probably won't be able to reply to anything more than once a day. i am making a conscious effort to get more caught up on stuff this weekend though.))

"What do I think about what?" asked Hadrian, puzzled. He didn't understand a word of what was being said.

"Your father wants to know if you think we should walk the fast way and risk getting in trouble or the slower way and have a smaller risk of getting in trouble," Liz explained in a low voice. She could get behind making Hadrian feel included, but it probably would've been easier to include him had they all known the language being spoken.

Hadrian shrugged. "I don't know, but whatever Mommy said was probably right. She's pretty smart. Also, why are you being so quiet?" The last sentence he attempted to whisper, but it was almost as loud (if not slightly louder) than his actual voice.

message 62: by [deleted user] (new)

((I'm being pretty bad at replying to RP lately, so I was mostly asking in case there were any you weren't as interested in in case we'd have dropped a couple))

Deese nearly groaned at his son's seeming inability to be even remotely quiet. Then again, Hadrian was a little kid. He could remember being rather loud when he was little. That was before he realized that people were mildly intimidating and that he was weird and that he really didn't want to attract all that much attention. He sighed and ran a hand through his messy hair. "Yeah, Hade, we'll listen to your mother." He smiled at his son. He wondered exactly how much longer that blind trust was actually going to last. He knew he had stopped with blind trust rather early. He hoped Hadrian wouldn't.

((i wouldn't mind dropping the one between vare and mena))

Liz nodded in acknowledgement of the decision. It was more or less what she expected Hadrian to say since he didn't know a lot about the subject, but she, like Deese, wondered how long he would be so blindly trusting. "So, when would you like to start?" she asked Deese, switching back to the other language.

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

((Okay. That works for me))

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

"Tomorrow? The day after?" Deese asked, also switching back to the other language. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He was sick of all this travelling. It was a strange feeling, and he had never thought it would be possible to feel that way about travelling. He was emotionally very ready to complete the plans to overthrow the king and establish themselves as the Council of Ten.

Liz nodded. "Tomorrow. The sooner the better, don't you think?" Like Deese, she was growing tired of the constant moving from place to place, especially when they had Hadrian in tow. What she really wanted to do was to be able to stay somewhere for more than a night or two at a time; to really and truly rest.

What Hadrian really wanted was for his parents to speak in a language he understood. He knew that they were probably discussing stuff that was Secret and Adult, but Hadrian didn't care much for being left out.

message 67: by [deleted user] (new)

Deese sighed. He'd been hoping she wouldn't say that. He'd wanted time to relax. But alas, apparently that was not what his wife wanted, and more than rest, he wanted to keep his beloved wife happy. She'd deny it, of course, but she was someone one wanted to keep happy. "Yeah," he sighed, "probably for the best." He sighed and ran a hand through his hair and stared down at his cooling plate of food.

Liz bit the inside of her cheek. She'd known Deese for long enough that she could tell when he wasn't pleased with a decision. She also recognized that he was probably exhausted from all the travelling they'd been doing recently and (even though it wasn't something Liz didn't really want to wait on) maybe it wouldn't hurt to wait another day. "Hadrian?" said Liz.

"...Yes?" Hadrian replied warily. His mother was using The Voice, and he quickly reviewed anything he'd done in the past couple of minutes that would've warranted such attention. Was that what the adults had been discussing that Hadrian had been so unable to hear?

"Are you tired?"

"Well, yes, I am. We've been doing a lot of walking and not a lot of sitting. Papa kinda looks tired, too. Maybe you should ask him."

Liz looked carefully between her husband and son, weighing her decision. Finally she decided on, "Deese, would you like to wait a bit before we set out again?"

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

" . . . . .Yeah, a bit," Deese mumbled, looking down at the table. He'd really wanted to agree with his beloved and intelligent wife, but he was pretty fucking exhausted. He switched back to the foreign tongue. "But maybe we should just get to the next town on our way? So we aren't entirely stationary but also not moving very far?" He shrugged. It would be very good to teach their son this language. They were probably going to have to repeat all of this in a moment to their son. He turned to Hadrian. "How about we move a bit but only a bit? We'd have most the day for sightseeing and sh -- stuff. Obviously going to say stuff." The latter sentence only exacerbated the problem. He gave Liz a sheepish expression. It didn't help his parents had always cursed around him as a kid, so he didn't have the objections his wife did.

Liz wondered how many pointed glares she'd have to throw in Deese's direction before he stopped swearing around their son. She didn't mind the words themselves, but she didn't want Hadrian to start talking like that in the event he met someone of his own age. She did like the idea of a compromise, though.

"That's probably better, actually. One of us collapsing from exhaustion would probably just take up more time anyways."

Hadrian shrugged "I don't mind moving as long as it's not far."

Deese nodded, trying not to seem at all surprised that Liz was going along with one of his ideas. Nine times out of ten, it was the other way around. He was only so successful at masking his shock. To most people, he could be unreadable, but his wife knew him too well and saw too much not to notice, he knew. His eyes were a fraction of an inch wider than usual. "Alright. So next town over. It's rather stange for us, yes, travelling so little?"

((My computer's developed a habit of deleting words if I changed stuff, and it's not the insert button, I've checked. I'll fix it))
