Shannon (pokey36) | 66 comments This isn't about a particular series but just a question in general. I saw a note on a book in a series that said because it was shorter than the other books in the series, it couldn't have a whole number.

If the author wants a book to be say #7 in a series and it's a shorter book, why wouldn't we allow that. It's their series. I'm just confused why we would number book differently than everywhere else it's listed and on the cover itself.

And what would that mean for series where all the book are shorter. Are they all decimal numbers.

Just a bit confused.

Thank you!!

Emily | 17635 comments Goodreads has a standardized way of listing a series for readers, even if authors, publishers, or other sites list them differently.

The series numbering policy is here under "Series numbering and order"
https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

A series comprised of novellas is listed with integers.
