RandomAnthony | 14536 comments "Vacuum" is a weird word. Why does it have two U's? Are there other words with two U's in a row? I can think of any except for a German band called Amon Duul. I think that's what they're called, anyway.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Weird is a weird word, too. I before E, except after C? Um, well, not in this case.

message 3: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It's all on a continuum.

message 4: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Oh, good one.

I'm a little wired about that, too, Jackie.

message 6: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Disparate.

I like the word "disparate". I just used it in a letter (nothing to do with GR, a professional thing).

message 7: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm desperate to use that word.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Cacophony always irritates me - I want it to be "KAK-uh-fohn-EE" but my boss always corrects me and says it's "Kuh-COF-uh-nee."

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

All this talk is leaving a residuum on my brain.

message 10: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Caca phony. Fake poop?

message 11: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I do love "maniacal," though - the pronunciation seems to have a bit more ummph than the word on paper.

message 12: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ooh. Points for Jim.

I don't like cacaphony, either. Did I spell that wrong? My computer says I did.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Cacophony. I didn't know that spelling, either.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

What about catastrophe? It looks like the cat is a trophy.

message 15: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I like how some East Europeans pronounce maniac.

"MON yock"

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I've always thought jodhpurs was a weird word, too. Am I even spelling it right?

message 17: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments What exactly is a jodhpur? My computer says it's wrong. Let me try plural. Jodhpurs. Oh, that works. Has to be plural.

message 18: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Riding pants. Right?

message 19: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Yup.

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Jods are mostly worn by young kids (with short boots) or by saddle-seat riders. They're the ones that traditionally flared out at the thigh.

They have been largely replaced for most adult riders by breeches, which are worn with tall boots.

message 21: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments "Breeches" sounds dirty. Or rednecky. Can't decide.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Jodhpurs are a weird word for some weird looking pants.

message 23: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Is there a jodhpurs fetish, you think? I assume there's a fetish for just about everything.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments There MUST be a fetish, because, just look at them!

message 25: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments So, do they make the butt look smaller or bigger - the jury is still out.

If they make the butt look smaller, then I seriously need to work on adding some to my wardrobe.

message 26: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I go with bigger. Look at those big butts. It's the two-tone thing.

message 27: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Well, they all seem to have flat asses to me.

message 28: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments And yes, there's got a big a fetish. I agree.

message 29: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments But I'm not googling it. I know better.

message 30: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments But does the twotone thing make them look wider?

message 31: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Definitely no J-Los in that bunch... just sayin'.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Oh, hey! It's 9/9/09! Where will you be at 9:09 p.m?

message 33: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Those are "full seat", in which the thicker leather patch goes up over the butt/crotch. They look dorky, but they're very comfortable.
More padding, and more stick to the saddle. They're mostly used for dressage. The Spanish Riding School wears suede full seat breeches with suede saddles for extra glue. So they can do this:

If you ride hunters/jumpers, you wear the kind where the leather is only a knee patch, like so:

message 34: by Julie (new)

Julie | 568 comments Sarah Pi, you seem to know quite a lot about jodhpurs. It fact, you gave a full wikipedia definition for them including pictures.
Now I wanna know if you have a jodhpur fetish.

message 35: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments No fetish. I have spent my whole life around horses. The pony in message 20 is mine (though I am neither rider).

message 36: by Heidi (last edited Sep 09, 2009 01:13PM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Sarah Pi is quite the horse and horseback riding enthusiast, if I'm not mistaken. It's her area of expertise... along with RAWK.

message 37: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Horses, RAWK and rugby.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

How come your horse but no you?

message 39: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I don't like non-rawk pictures of me.
