hidden secrets

Ok so so far the book is pretty intresting to me because there are hidden secrets that no one talks about. A quote in the book is "My aunt Helen lived with the family for the last few years of her life because something very bad happened to her. Nobody would tell me what happened then even though I always wnted to know. When I was around 7, I stopped asking about it because I kept asking like kids always do and my aunt started crying very hard. Thats when my dad slapped me, saying your hurting your aunt's feelings. " This quote tells me taht there is a family secret and no one talks about it. Also that its a fresh wound for Ms. Helen because she still gets very disturbed and start crying. I have know idea what the secret is but i do notice that Ms.Helen doesnt like when the father hits the little girl. What do you think as is the family secret? Have you ever experienced a family secret like this? Has there ever been a secret and your family did everything so you wouldn't find out?
