Top two vote getters will be choices for November. Sorry I tried to put blurbs up but it was too long.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Jeepers! I missed the nominations?! Sigh.

Jennifer W | 2175 comments We've got a tight race going, though. How much longer will the poll be up?

Hopefully long enough for Julia's Chocolates to get some more votes lol. Not that it matters I'm going to read it regardless.

Monica (imelda85) Julia's Chocolates is one that I must read, as well! :)

FYI today is your last day to vote. Poll closes at midnight tonight.

Renee (elenarenee) | 275 comments I will be interested in the Historian discussion. Its a heavy book. It gets mixed reiviews because it is written in the style of literature. It is well done and a great story but many who pick it up think it is going to be a different book from what they read. I would reccomend everyone give it a try. If you dont like horror I would still read it. Its got enough of the horror but its not the primary story

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments I am just surprised that this book was picked because of the length of the book. It is huge!

Yes, The Historian is definately one you want to start ahead of time. It is very long, and would we hard for someone to read in just the 2 weeks of the discussion.

Vicki For those who have read it, have you read Dracula first? I am not sure if it matters. I have The Historian on my shelf, but always wondered if I should read Dracula. I don't think I would have time to read both now.

Vicki, I am reading The Historian, and I have not read Dracula. They talk about the book Dracula in The Historian, but the Historian is more about the actual history of Vlad the Impaler (the real person who the fictional Count Dracula was based on) and about the vampire legends in many European countries. Actually might be better to read The Historian first, then follow up with the fictional story of Dracula afterwards.

Vicki Thanks for the information. How are you finding The Historian so far?

It's good. The story does involve several generations of a family, and skips around alot from one generation to another, so you have to pay attention to figure out who is telling the story and what period of time you are in. And I am reading it as well as several other books (a usual occurance for me) so I will read a huge chunk one day, then put it down for a couple days, then go back to it. But I am enjoying it. It is just VERY long. :o)

Monica (imelda85) I enjoyed The Historian and I'm looking forward to joining in on the discussion. (It's been a couple of years since I read it, but I'm sure our discussion topics will bring it back to me!)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments Think I'm confused! That's nothing new....

Anyway the reads for November are going to be Julia's Chocolates and The Shadow of the Wind, is that right??

Hi Cindy, Yes those are the two "official" reads for November. But many of us who voted for The Handmaid's Tale have decided to read it in November to, so it will be an additional read for anyone interested (but not an official read). :o)
And yes, for some reason, we ended up discussing one of the October reads (The Historian) in this Novemeber poll thread. :o)

Amanda I'm new to the group so Julia's Chocloates will be my first read with you. I just bought it the other night and can't wait to start reading. It looks great!
