Thanks for your answer. I had figured it out shortly after posting the question. I had never created a shelf before & had to figure out how to do it! And then I had to figure out how to add the 2 books I had already read! From now on, it should be a breeze, huh? Thank you for trying to help -- I do appreciate it.

For those in the UK, in case you don't see this in the deals thread, Susan has rounded up the latest offers and 2 more P.D. James books are 83p each today, Death in Holy Orders and The Murder Room.

Bruce I just noticed PD James’ 100 Birthday is in August. Is it a coincidence that the reading challenge is this year?

Also, I came across this pre-order the other day: The Part-Time Job The Part-Time Job by P.D. James

A small, dark treat published for the first time in book form in celebration of what would have been P.D. James' 100th birthday.

My only regret is that I shan't be alive to savour my retrospective triumph. But that is of small account. I savour it every day of my life. I shall have done the one thing I resolved to do when I was twelve years old - and the world will know it.

Follow the 'Queen of Crime' as she takes us into the mind of a man who has waited decades to enact his patient, ingenious revenge on a school bully.

Not sure if it is a short story, something unreleased or a novella. Does anyone know anything about it?

Thanks - picked it up!

I just googled The Part-time Job and it is a short story which was published by The New Statesman in 2010 and republished after James's death in 2014 - as I have an account I can read it there, although mini books are often nice to have. This is the link to read it on the New Statesman site (it's possible to read a few pages free each month):

Thanks, Judy. I wondered whether it had been published before.

Just thought I would mention that there is an Audible 2 for 1 sale on at the moment and there are some P D James titles listed.

There is a new massively long article about PD James on the CrimeReads website today, which is very interesting.

WARNING -THERE ARE SPOILERS about Dalgliesh's development as a character over the series, although I don't *think* there are any spoilers for the actual murders.

https://crimereads.com/p-d-james-a-cr...

The article reveals why James only wrote two books about Cordelia Gray - she was upset by the TV adaptation once they started having episodes she hadn't written and felt she couldn't write any more about the character.

That's interesting about Cordelia Gray, Judy. I know we both liked those books.

I liked Cordelia Gray a lot more than Dalgliesh, to be honest, although I'm warming to the series.

Sorry, I'm a day late, but have just noticed that it was the 100th anniversary of P.D. James' birth yesterday. How appropriate that we are reading her this year.

That is so wonderful, Judy. Thanks for posting - very appropriate indeed.

Exciting news for fans of P.D. James - Channel 5 is planning a new TV series, called simply Dalgliesh.

More details here - Bertie Carvel (of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell) is to star in the new series.

Lesley | 384 comments I'll look forward to their arrival here soon after UK release, I hope! Usually not too far behind.

I have to say I am enjoying the books more as we go through the series.

I dropped out way back in the Spring, for some reason. might even just be covid related, not about the books.

but, at what point did you start to like them better?

From around A Taste for Death. I really liked that and have enjoyed Original Sin, A Certain Justice, the one I'm currently reading, Death in Holy Orders. I wasn't too taken with Devices and Desires.
