GETTING TO KNOW YOU
>
<closed thread>What are you currently reading?
Donna Jo have you read Mao's Last Dancer its a "grown up" book similar to the chinese dancer book by the sounds of it
not my daughter sounds like it was based on the pregnancy pact that occurred in Massachusettes in the 2008-09 year...they made a lifetime movie out of it
Dee wrote: "Donna Jo have you read Mao's Last Dancer its a "grown up" book similar to the chinese dancer book by the sounds of it"Dee, I did read Mao's Last Dancer and found it fascinating. Since I started this challenge, I have read more books about China, India, and Korea than I ever have in my life.
trying to finish up my last 2 books today - I have about 2 hours left of
to listen to and
- both for the same 25 pointer
I am currently reading Hater by David Moody and therefore regreting that I don't have any 'feel-good' books at the moment.Hater is a bit depressing for me since I have not read a fun book in some times now. :)
But it's good. I can't wait to see how it ends.
I finished Believe that you canBelieve That You Can: Moving with faith and tenacity to the dream God has given you, it was okay.I am about to begin
I'm reading Baby Alicia Is Dying, continuing on my trend of "books I could probably count for the challenge but are so easy I'd feel guilty doing so."
I finished the 3rd book in the Maeve Kerrigan series
by Jane Casey last night - I really enjoyed this novel and I can't wait till the next one! Jane Casey is becoming one of my favourite crime authors. This morning, I began reading
by Heather Gudenkauf.
I'm reading Alibi in High Heels to finish up PeeBee's task and I Lost Everything in the Post-Natal Depression for 15.10
I finished reading
by Heather Gudenkauf yesterday - It's a brilliant novel. I couldn't put it down! I honestly couldn't recommend it highly enough. Now I'm about to start the 9th book in the Stephanie Plum series
by Janet Evanovich.
I just finished The Iron Wyrm Affair by Lilith Saintcrow. I've got The Rest is Noise: Listening to the Twentieth Century by Alex Ross in progress (very slow reading, but interesting--good for this gap before the next challenge), and looking around for something light to read.
I'm currently reading
and
. Don't know if I'll get to anything else this week or start on one of the big books on my list for fall.
i started The Stonecutter which is 500+ pages, so I can count it for the next season...I think i'm going to use it for Donna Jo's task (since I rolled a for a translated work, but it also works for a 15 pointer - the suspense one)
Dee wrote: "i started The Stonecutter which is 500+ pages, so I can count it for the next season...I think i'm going to use it for Donna Jo's task (since I rolled a for a translated work, but it also works for..."Dee, it's a good book, but probably you didn't mean my Fall task, as I've got the related authors one.
oh its one of the 30 pointers that I had to roll dice for...lol! DLMRose maybe...ugh...its one of you guys!!I've heard that - I'm kind of skeptical since I haven't read the first 2, but I got this one as a review copy and don't have time to get the previous 2 listened to first...so hopefully I won't be too lost
I knew you'd get it straighten out in time--after all, you just need to read the book right now, not keep track of the petty little details. (Now, where did I put my book down?)
I'm reading Untamed and Murder on the Rocks. When I finish them I'll either start A Storm of Swords or Drums of Autumn for the fall.
I finished 22 Britannia Road, very powerful and gripping debut-5\5!Finally I am about to read the anticipated novel-
I've started The Poisonwood Bible for 30.6 Reading Through Disneyland (great task!) as it's 500+ pages, not loving it so far though if I'm honest!
Ally wrote: "I've started The Poisonwood Bible for 30.6 Reading Through Disneyland (great task!) as it's 500+ pages, not loving it so far though if I'm honest!"Ally, I hated Poisonwood when I read it several years ago--I don't think I even finished it, which is very unusual for me. But this spring I listened to it as we drove to Phoenix and I loved the audio--again, very unusual for me, because I mostly don't care to listen to book.
Anyway, if you can get your hands on a CD copy, try it.
Ally wrote: "I've started The Poisonwood Bible for 30.6 Reading Through Disneyland (great task!) as it's 500+ pages, not loving it so far though if I'm honest!"That book disappointed me in so many ways! I hope you enjoy it though, but it was pretty lame to me.
I started pre-reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn since it's over 500 pages. If I get close to halfway before the challenge starts, I may do the same with Fingersmith.
Debating which of my big books to start for the fall challenge. I've got Drums of Autumn, A Storm of Swords and City of Fallen Angels lined up.
I'm in Missouri and we are currently experiencing the remnants of Hurricaine Isaac. Lovely, lovely rain off and on all day. So I declared today to be a pyjama day and lay around in bed all day long, reading. I read a short-story anthology, two graphic novels and one novel for the challenge. It was awesome.I thoroughly recommend the novel, The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker. I just finished it and can already sense it will be a frequently re-read selection as it was just perfect for this rainy day.
reading Women's Letters: America from the Revolutionary War to the Present for Ms Anderson's task and Burning Alive for Donna Jo's.
I am currently reading The Son of Neptune, Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman, Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
I've finished the 9th book in the Stephanie Plum series (and the best one so far)
by Janet Evanovich. Now I'm reading
by Donald McCaig. It's Gone With the Wind from Rhett Butler's point of view.
I am currently reading Protectedand I have enjoyed it very much. (I wanted to post here to make sure I knew how to add a link) I hope it works

False Memory by Dan Krokos is an ARC copy of a dystopian wor..."
I agree with you about the quality of YA--you get about the same amount of dross with adult books too. But there are some excellent YA's out there.
The Chinese dancer book was interesting for the look at China and its training system, but seemed a little self-conscience, perhaps because the author is married to the subject. Still, not a bad book.
I wasn't all that impressed with Anything but Ordinary, but that could be because the cover picture was so surreal. Anyway, I thought it would be more Jodi Picoult or something. Well, it is Jodi Picoult-ish with a tinge of paranormal (for lack of a better term). There again, not a bad book, but not what I was in the mood for.
I did enjoy False Memory alot--I hate to wait for the next one.
Have you read Cinder yet? I listened to it on a longish car trip and the three of us (including the teen) loved it.
I'll have to look for Daughters of the West. It sounds like my kind of book.
