message 952: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments I have started Don't Tempt Me by Loretta Chase. Through no fault of the author, I am already annoyed at the book. The "Whoa" cover shows a brown-haired man and blonde woman. But in the first chapter Lucien is described as having pale blond hair. I HATE it when that happens.

message 961: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot The advantages of being an insomniac is that I can sit for hours and just read when I can't sleep so last night I read most of Desert Flower: The Extraordinary Journey Of A Desert Nomad and finished the last few chapters this morning. Before lunch I got the first chapter of Blood Bound started.

message 967: by Melissa Wiebe (last edited Sep 06, 2010 12:17AM) (new)

Melissa Wiebe (melissawiebe80) Reading and almost done The Red Queen. I have to return the book on Tuesday (tomorrow); it was a two week loan and didn't really start to get into the book until yesterday (Saturday). I will get 15.3 done sometime tomorrow. I want to read something that easy and light, as I can't seem to get to sleep at the moment; probably will go and read one of my easier books. Its that or play games online for a couple of hours.....

29 minutes later....I am going to start The Daring Game, even though I have a number of other books to read, but its a fairly easy read at about 220 pgs and its something that I have read in the past.

message 968: by Kate (new)

I'm using it in task 10.6 In the pink as I have this version of the book which has a nice dusky pink! I had tried to fit it into several challenges as I REALLY want to catch up with this series!... Blood Bound (Mercedes Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs

message 974: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot On the Patricia Briggs side of things, Blood Bound or any of her work can be used on Task 30.5 part 2 if you got the Ps and Qs part of the question...

message 975: by Brooke (new)

Brooke (brookeonbooks) I started The Book Thief this morning. So far it is living up to the hype.

message 976: by Petra (new)

Petra I finished both Mockingjay and Complete Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde this weekend.
I really enjoyed the tales of Oscar Wilde. His writing is entertaining and has a twist of the dark side to it.
I'm continuing with Coffee: A Dark History. It's an interesting history, although written a bit dryly. Lots of names listed, none of which I know, and lots of dates. The coffee stories and coffee trade is really interesting, though, and keeps me reading through the dry parts.

How are you liking [book:Middlemar..."

I've been reading Middlemarch off and on all summer and have found it to be complex and challenging--that is to say complex, and somewhat dry at times. Eliot's critic/critique of her own society, or as she implies early in the book, the society from which her own emerged, is fascinating! She seems to admire it and detest it in the same sentence. Its not an easy read but its a lovely read! I keep thinking I would like to find some criticism of Eliot and Middlemarch but I question the availability of English language criticism in Norway! Alas!
