Angel (mnemosyne) | 48 comments I see that we have some new functionality for adding and viewing characters that appear in books, which is pretty cool.

The down side is that when I try to add a character, it seems to automatically merge that character with other characters who share the same name in other novels. I can't figure out how to separate characters that have been erroneously merged either. Is there something that I'm not seeing, or that I'm doing wrong when adding characters?

mlady_rebecca | 591 comments The easiest way is to make the names unique, usually by adding a last name. Create a new record for the book or series you're focused on, and then delete references to the old name.

I'm not sure if there is a way to separate completely identical names without changing one or the other.

Yeah, that's where the problem is coming in. The books I was reading when I noticed it were set in the middle ages, hence no last names.

Debbie Moorhouse People in the Middle Ages were often identified by their trade, or where they came from, so you could try that. Or perhaps put the book or series name in brackets?
