Peter Aronson (peteraronson) | 516 comments Franky, those two books may be the perfect preparation for reading Kafka on the Shore. According to the Wikipedia page on the book: "Many fans of Haruki Murakami have come to agree Kafka on the Shore is better understood after reading Murakami's earlier works, especially Hard-Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World. Some long-time fans consider Kafka on the Shore to be a spiritual sequel to both Hard-Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World as well as The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle."

Yes, I think those books have definitely prepared more for this type of reading experience. I see some similarities, but I know there is another story and meaning that will come into place. I like how he has the alternating plot lines, as in Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. The author has a way of bringing a reader in to a character's world.

Franky | 203 comments Wow, chapter 16...took me awhile to recover from that.

I'm starting to see these parallel lines between the two main stories get closer and closer.

Pretty cool! I'm glad he weighs in on disappearing cats as one of his topics.
