LexyS | 43 comments Hello,
I don't really see the sense of having such in the Database and i honestly have no idea how to tell which of them are "different editions of the same work"...
TBH I.M.O. those have no place here and are just spamming the search...

Emily | 17474 comments They are automatically imported from a variety of sources. They are not considered books so we can always mark them as "not a book" so that they will not appear in searches. You can post a link to those or a specific "author" of them in the Book Issues folder for someone to delete if you wish.
Unfortunately since they have ISBNs, there is no way for the exporting system to know that they are not real books.

Emily | 17474 comments I was able to do the first few over the last couple of days. Thanks Olivia for finishing it; the last one had a ton.

LexyW, feel free to post any more that you find.

Emily | 17474 comments It just takes time to delete them, but we can work on them. Some have many thousands of notebooks which definitely take a long time to delete.
You're still welcome to post (I wouldn't post more than 10 per post, and it is good to number them).

Lais | 187 comments I started doing one of these requested in another topic and it ocurred to me: if all the "books" by an "author" are notebooks, can't we just change the author's name to NOT A BOOK and then merge it with the "official" NOT A BOOK author? Then all the books change at once. I'm suggesting before doing it in case I didn't think of something.

Wait, but if we have to NAB them, no? If they have an ISBN it's no use deleting them because they'll be automatically imported again, isn't it so?

That is correct. It usually takes several tries if there are many records. From the manual:
https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

"2. If all of the items remaining on an author's list of books are not books, the author can be merged into the NOT A BOOK author profile. If the author has associated fans, quotes, quizzes, or other author information and it can be determined that this is an incorrect profile for an actual author, the individual items should be NABbed and the author merged into the profile of the actual author in order to preserve the fans and other author information.
Any secondary authors should be removed from all books' records
The author profile should be edited and the name replaced with NOT A BOOK. When prompted, be sure to merge into NOT A BOOK's profile
If working in bulk, it is not necessary to edit each individual (not-a-)book record to edit the title or other fields"

Wait, but if we have to NAB them, no? If they have an ISBN it's no use deleting them because they'll be automatically imported again, isn't it so?

The records are not deleted from Goodreads; they just become unsearchable. They will then not clutter up a search for a similar author name or book title.

yes, I know, but I was confused where you said you were deleting them. I thought you were actually deleting them, not nabbing them. :)

Emily | 17474 comments Oh yes, I should have said "make them go away." :-)
