Maybe. It's a provocative story that she presented very well. My brain just fried trying to keep the clone relationships organized and it didn't help that this is one of my least favorite science stories. I must admit, though, each time I reread it (3 times) it was a little bit clearer.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3060 comments I liked it. This isn't a new topic in science fiction and Robb described a plausible event in the future. Three are many people who fear this very thing might happen with cloning.

It isn't in my top five In Death books but it kept me riveted.

Rachael (dleurban) | 33 comments I'm starting my re-read of this tomorrow. First impressions when I read it were just.. overwhelming. It was interesting, with the cloning stuff but it didn't hit home for me the first time. Still a very good book that I did enjoy.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
I guess it worked for what it's meant to be. It's just not as much my cuppa tea. But I realize that's a personal thing - I'm sure many may love this much futuristic stuff. I guess I also miss the "hunt" - the getting into the psycho serial killer's mind, figuring the who, what, why out & Eve's tracking them down. I know she figures this whole scifi thing out but it just felt different for some reason.

Michelle | 2657 comments Biggest problem I think is what to follow after the Swisher case. That was just as intense. With this reread I read it more for the character growth for me , more family and friends. Thanksgiving being in the background that brings this on.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
Yes, Michelle...me too. Love that this book has the family Thanksgiving gathering in it and we celebrate Thanksgiving next week. Perfect timing.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
Good points, ladies.

Also had to laugh during the chaos when Eve & Roarke are evacuating the lab which is set to destruct & Eve sticks Roarke with carrying the screaming baby out...their exchange is priceless & hilarious.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
It was one of those absurd moments where they're in a life-or-death situation and she's more unnerved holding the baby than reaching safety. It was brilliant!

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
Exactly! I love the absurd moments in this series! :)

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 9 comments The cloning aspect in this novel was so creepy and the intent so evil. I could not stand any of the Icoves.

I'm so happy Roarke's mother's family is normal and sweet.

Michelle | 2657 comments I want to say it sweet that Roarke is nervous about his family. But that word just doesn't fit.
While he was walking with Eve in the garden and start thinking of activities for the little ones , I wondered what he'd be like with their own children. I know he'll be a great dad( deliberate choice of word because I don't thinks he'll be a father ;-)) his so protective and concerned for Eve's well being ,I wondered how hell curb himself from going overboard. I suppose that would be the balance that Eve brings.
I also wondered what Summerset's reaction to all the Irish family was. These are moment I wish Robb does a behind the scene or small vignettes. All these farmers and Irish to boot, descending upon his domain.

As if Eve doesn't have enough nightmares she had to leave the still births. Clever , clever Roarke. They know each other so well that in trying to safe each other they know just what buttons to push. That was both ways.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
Michelle, I think I know what you mean but what's your distinction between father and Dad?

Michelle | 2657 comments IMO. Dad is more personable. Father seems formal and slightly detached.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
I thought that's what you meant. Roarke would definitely be a Dad.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3060 comments Yea Roarke will be a dad. I know Robb said a baby will end the series but I hope when she gets there she will give one .5 book that just deals with their family. I don't know how she will write it but I would love to read it.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
Nice distinction between Father & Dad, Michelle. A man can father a child but it takes a special man to be a real dad. Roarke would be that to any child. Although, it's a LOL moment when either he or Eve have to hold a baby!

Aj (ajmcmaster) | 46 comments am half way through it and realised i have read it before but im going to still finish reading it ... love it. i always love the part when trina comes over and does the pamper sessions and then eve and roarke finding out that a little surprise was put on eve... the hearts pointing down wards was great...

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
LOL Aj! That was just a fun scene with Trina...and a really intimate scene when Roarke discovered the surprise! ;)

Michelle | 2657 comments Love how Trina always manages to do the surprises without Eve's knowledge. And don't worry Aj this group have , mostly, all read the books. We rereading it together.

Aj (ajmcmaster) | 46 comments I have finished I now...loved it again. So intense at the end...

Penni | 816 comments Just started this one. I'm at the part where Roarke arrives home.

Michelle | 2657 comments *sigh*. These two really know each other so well. And then the jacket the next morning !!

Penni | 816 comments Loved the scene with the coat - and the ensuing coat envy.

And loved when Eve was falling asleep, still mulling the murder, and described it as "She didn't want to cause pain, so there were feelings there. But no passion. Roarke, if I ever had to kill you it would be violent and painful." Only Eve can pull off an endearment like that lol.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
So true, Penni. I loved the conversations between Roarke & Eve in this one as they talked of how it would be to lose the other...beautiful sentiments. And then our Eve has such a unique way of expressing those things.

All the coat envy was priceless...Peabody, especially. She is such a hoot - just love her.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
And only Roarke can appreciate what she means:)

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3060 comments I love the coat scenes too. I always think how it must lift Eve up. She knows she isn't a fashion plate but when she wears that coat and everyone fawns over it I can see a smile cross her face. I also love how Roarke knows that the coat can't be feminine and gets her a unisex type design.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
I loved that Eve expresses her pleasure at receiving the coat...she often brushes off gifts - especially jewelry. But she loves the coat.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
I believed Eve thought that coat help define her first as a cop, which is one of the reasons she loves it so much. And, that Roarke "got" her in how he had it designed.

Penni | 816 comments Eve had pure coat lust lol. There are few things Eve wants/craves. Coffee was one. Roarke found another in the coat. (and of course goes without saying that her primo want/crave is Roarke himself).

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
I can picture Eve strolling into a room in that coat...a powerful figure, no doubt. She doesn't "need" clothes/stuff like most women, doesn't use them as a "statement", but this coat is her.

Penni | 816 comments She also isn't in to primping/makeup/hairstyles all that. And I love the theme in this one with the cosmetic surgery. When Peabody asks Eve if she'd consider having something done and said she herself might like her nose done. Eve's response - why, you have one, it's in the middle of your face, has two holes to get oxygen in you, what else do you need? And Eve's comment - my first stop would be to a psychiatrist to figure out what my problem was that I thought I needed it.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
LOL...yes, love, love Peabody! And her obsession with her own butt. Does this make my butt look bigger?

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
Sad to see we are still concerned with our butts in the year 2059:)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
Always, I fear...always! lol

Penni | 816 comments I am a little fearful for Mira in this one. She is really being hit hard with the good Dr.'s sidelines.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
Yeah, this is a rough one for her.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11218 comments Mod
It is rough for Mira & it puts her at odds with Eve.
