It's a specific type of cosmetic surgery, quite violent, that addresses a nose that permanently points toward one of the owner's ears instead of forward the way it ought to, usually after a bar fight. It involves a bunch of trusties holding you down while the prison surgeon shoves a couple of dowel rods up your nostrils and yanks the whole works back into position.

I NEVER would have guessed that!
When I read about it I was immediately reminded of an anecdote a client told me about a trip he made to our local ER. He'd been in a car accident and his nose was mashed sideways, and the doc mercifully gave him a good dose of Novocain before shoving a pencil up each nostril and yanked hard to straighten it out.
