Me too. We were forced to by our LA teacher. Now, I'm forced to by my Tex. His. teacher. Ugh... Anyway. I'm trying to let it come from the heart. Wanna read it?

A View from a Thirteen Year Old Girl
When is the right time to honor our veterans? Well, you tell me. Every day, soldiers are out there fighting for us. Veterans were out there, fighting for us. People lose their lives every day, just trying to survive. They’re risking their lives and hoping to be home to their families soon, but some don’t make it. All of our lives, people have been fighting for our lives, our freedoms, our being. There’s always an excuse. It’s human nature. That fight or flight instinct when our lives are threatened in some way, shape or form. It takes over us and we do everything we can to survive. Any time is the right time to honor those who do what they can to keep us safe and win the war. We owe them that much at the very least because of everything they do for us.
Some think that just because someone doesn’t know, it can’t hurt them. But if our military heroes knew the importance of them, I think that would actually help them with what they go through. After all, wouldn’t you want to know that people do appreciate and care that you’re out there risking your life every day for them? We can always honor them, even if they aren’t here with us. Just because they aren’t here doesn’t mean that we can’t pray for God to keep them safe through the rough times that are ahead of them. They deserve to know; they’re out there every day and we’re here, safe in our houses going about our everyday lives, not even giving them a second thought.
That’s just it though. Think about it and be honest: How often do we really think of those in the wars? We’re so wrapped up in our daily lives that we rarely even give others, military heroes and more, a second thought. All we really think about anymore is what we can do for ourselves and how our actions may benefit us. We’re so selfish. And we keep becoming more and more selfish as generations go by and times change. Just because we can’t see our military heroes doesn’t mean that they aren’t there. If we thought about them maybe just a little more and gave them further encouragement, it would probably help them immensely. When they’re out there, just trying to survive and no doubt wishing they could be anywhere but there, they need to know to keep their spirits up. To keep trying. Any time is the right time to honor them because if we don’t, how can we really expect them to keep fighting for us? If I were out there in the war, I’d want to know, to have some kind of incentive or reason to not just give up. To keep fighting.
So the real question here is, when isn’t the right time to honor our military happens. The answer: never. They all stand for justice and freedom. We should always honor them because they will always be there, fighting for us and just trying to survive. No matter what, whether we win or lose our battles, we should continue to honor them because they at least tried. If you don’t try, you’ll never know how the end turns out, which is why we persevere.
There. Done. I think I need to work on the title.....

Really? Thanks! I was trying to write it from the heart and not the mind, you know? Say what I really feel and not just what they want to/normally would hear.

Oh. Thanks, I think... I didn't go see the winners from last year, lol. I didn't really care, last year. Truth be told, I didn't really care this year, either, but I'm getting graded on this, so I decided I may as well try. And I started writing, and just kind of let the words flow.
