Somewhere in Time by Richard Mattheson

I loved the movie made from this book so I had to read the book itself and see what details I might have missed. Wow, what a story! In some ways I think the movie made better use of some things like th picture of her and the penny, but the book had a lot more action and detail about what was going through Richard's mind as well as the character of Elise.

One of the interesting things about it was that the time travel theory book that Richard used to get his ideas for the method really exists! I'm tempted to buy it and see what it has to say, especially whether it theorizes that time travel could be accomplished through the mind in the way that this story depicts.

I was a little disappointed at the very end because the movie saw Elise actually witness Richard's return to his own time and in the book she is asleep when it happens, so if I had read the book first I would have been left wondering if she even realized that he had gone against his will when most women would have felt used if a man disappeared right after a sexual conquest!

I enjoyed it enough to sit and read large portions of the story at once, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys an intelligently written Romance.

I gave it 4 stars, but there were parts that were worth 5 stars.
