Maiko-chan [|] Since I expect to start this series sometime today I'm making this thread for us now.

Also I have Glitches, Cinder, The Queen's Army, Scarlet, and Cress. I doubt I'll get any of the other side extras unless I happen to come across them, and I don't have Winter yet. If I really like the rest of the series I'll see about getting it; maybe that'll be what makes me finally get a library card again.

I was wondering what "The Queen's Army" was and then I realised it's probably a short story. I have the bind-up of the short stories and then an additional side story.

Maiko-chan [|] Aiyyy Just finished Glitches and yo this is gonna be good!

Eeee!!! I'm so excited to start reading Cinder with you.

Even though I've added all my books back, I'm still keen to read this book if you're still up to it?

Maiko-chan [|] Yeah I am. I just had no energy to get to it yesterday after going to the funeral. Today has also been a no energy day.

All good. Was just checking just in case ahaha. Let me know whenever you are ready. 💕

Maiko-chan [|] K I'm gonna start this today so I don't waste more time putting it off.

Decided that I'll read at least a full chapter every time I get through a page of add-ins. That'll help me get through both. So I should get through at least 5 chapters of this today to start with.

Maiko-chan [|] The contents say Cinder is broken up into four 'books'/sections, so I'll do my best to read through a 'book'/section each day starting today. So I'll try to get through the first 8 chapters today.

Maiko-chan [|] Two chapters in and I think I'm too wary of this book after Heartless to fully get into it just yet. Glitches was well written and sad. That seems to be Marissa Meyer's thing and I'm not ready for another sobbing fest like I had at the end of Heartless.

I saw your update. How're you liking it so far? I'm gonna start after I come home from the book fair tomorrow.

Maiko-chan [|] Got through the first section, 8 chapters in. It feels more on the intended-for-young-audiences scale than how I remember Heartless, partly in that it's predictable and every time I think something is going to happen it does, but it's still gonna get me emotional I can tell. I got really nervous reading the last of this section with Cinder and Peony.

So I dunno. I'm liking it, but it's more stressful than I want it to be. I'm already debating not continuing past this book for a while because I don't think I'll want to deal with the emotional onslaught of the following books.

Yeah the series does pack an emotional punch at times. I remember losing sleep for this series because once you start getting into it, you can't stop, and I was done with the entire series in a week. And yeah, it does feel like a younger audience book at the start, but it stops feeling that way pretty quickly.

Maiko-chan [|] All of that is making me more wary of this book. Like I have every belief that it will be good, but at what cost?

Maiko-chan [|] Tenae wrote: "it does feel like a younger audience book at the start, but it stops feeling that way pretty quickly."

How quickly is quickly? I'm halfway in now, somehow managing to stick to reading through a 'book'/section each day like I said I'd try to do, so done with the first two sections. It's still good so far, but like. In an easy-to-read well-written way. I'm liking it and I can see how this is something I could get into but it both is and isn't what I'm expecting so far and I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Maiko-chan [|] 52%, ch 22, Cinder was stupid and let queen Levana find out about her and I am very 'ugh' toward this book now. Each day I want to get through a section but finishing this section is going to be a struggle. Like I really just want to ignore it and read fanfic or manga instead.

I know it's still unfairly early to decide but I'm leaning toward not getting the last book Winter. At this point I'll only do so if I can get a library copy.

Ahaha every character has to have their dumb moment though. I'll catch up to you in a bit. Finally managed to have my depression sleep and I'm still out of it. Anyway, yeah it is unfairly early but I've made snap judgements in the past. Just remember the series picks up in quality AFTER Cinder.

Maiko-chan [|] Yes, but it feels childish, and just in a way that takes me out of the book. The kind of childishly stupid that didn't need to happen. I don't know. I just really don't like it and I want to ignore the book for a while.
