MissLemon | 255 comments Thanks Bill.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to read ahead of the start date but will do so as soon as possible. I will be back to this thread as soon as I can but looking forward to reading all your comments then.

Patty | 4474 comments I loved this little book. At first, I thought Brighton Rock was a geographical location. When I realized it was the name of candy, I thought, “oh the irony!”. A book about murder wrapped in sugar.

Bill I had read quite a few of Greene's books back in the day but never this one until a couple of years ago. It was super... tense with great characters. I hope everybody who reads it, enjoys.

MissLemon | 255 comments Sorry to disappear - I've been much longer than expected with this as I haven't had as much time reading as I usually do.

This is such a good book! I've only just finished and Im looking for other people's reviews online because I don't think I can even start to express how good it is.

Some of my own thoughts on subjects for discussion :
How do you feel about Pinky , Rose and Ida?
What will happen when Rose hears the record?
How exactly was 'Fred' killed?

Tom Mathews | 995 comments I finished this one yesterday. It's not my favorite Graham Greene but I did enjoy it.

Zahna | 8 comments I just finished it. Also not my favorite Graham Greene but I liked it. Why do you suppose it was called Brighton Rock?

Brighton Rock is a candy famous to Brighton. I think it was named after that.

MissLemon | 255 comments Brighton ( or any other seaside rock in the UK) is a long cylinder of hard sugary sweet stuff, usually mint flavour. It has the name of the town ( or other wording) integrated into it in such a way that whoever you cut/bite into it you can still read the writing. So in this case it has Brighton 'through and through'. Green means that Pinky character was the same, I believe.

I will look for a quote from the book later to back this up !
