When I first read this book, about 1968, I remember reading, maybe in a fanzine, that "The Warlord of Mars" was considered by many to be one of the single greatest fantasy novels ever written and that the trilogy of which "Warlord" comprises the 3rd is also very high on a list of all time great trilogies. I mention this to give some insight into what a rollicking good time this "Science Romance" novel is. It never lets up for a second from beginning to end.
I thoroughly enjoyed going back and re-reading the Barsoom trilogy after watching the movie, John Carter. I too probably read the books around 1968 or 69.
Me three! I was introduced to John Carter in high school, read the books in my senior year (1971-72) and just now re-read the first three books after watching the movie. They really do tell an exciting story.
