Since Walt became Sheriff or total in the series? Because I'm thinking there was an old skeleton or two and five murders seems a little low. I can remember one name, but that's about it. The rest are "the one who..."

I came up with six, maybe seven, in the first two books, three in Bk. 1 and four in Bk. 2. Feel free to correct me because I'm really not 100% sure I caught all the victims.

Now I'm stuck until I finish the book! ;) Here was my motivation for the question:
(view spoiler)[ In chapter nine Henry asks Walt how many murders there have been since he has been sheriff. Walt responds 5. Then Henry asks him if it is time for him to quit. I could only come up with 4. Cody, Jacob, Mari, and I counted Vonnie, but maybe I shouldn't have. I was also wondering if another one of the boys was killed? (hide spoiler)]
I am on chapter 12 and hope to finish today.

Ah! I know the one you're missing and it's from Book 1. (view spoiler)[Vonnie's father might be the fourth victim from book 1. Initially they said he committed suicide, but now that I think about it, she might've killed her father. I need to re-read that chapter. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 1-6: (view spoiler)[Gosh, I've missed this world! Laura, I agree with your spoiler. I don't think Mary did it either. I'm thinking maybe she was drugged at some point. I've never heard of anyone taking Lunesta and Ambien TOGETHER, but stranger things have happened. The town of Absolum is one scary place, too. It could've been anyone.

LMBO @ Henry entering the Friday Night Fights Powder River Pound Down Tough Man Contest. That's going to be an interesting scene. The names in this book are cracking me up, too. Love that Walt literally calls the bar "The AR."

As a horse owner I was a little nauseated over the burning the barn thing. *cringes* It's a big fear of mine and I rarely keep my horses in the barn as a result. Yes, I'm paranoid, but they are like family. The bond is a real partnership and losing it that way would be devastating. I can really understand Mary's despair.

I was also wondering about Walt's political future. We're not even halfway through the series, so something must keep him around! It'll be fun finding out. (hide spoiler)]

No, I think Lucian was Sheriff when that happened. I've re-read (view spoiler)[Walt's last conversation with Lonnie and it appears that her father DID commit suicide, so that may not even count. In that case, I've got two murders and two suicides in Book One and four murders in Book Two. (hide spoiler)]

I bet Walt is eager to get back to that dry spell!

I just finished book 2 and I loved it!
I love his characters and I love how when we gain a character they tend to stay a part of the series. Here is something that made me wonder and bothered me a little bit

I'm still working on (I'm about halfway through, just getting to the "big event" at "The AR." I had to stop and read another challenge book. Yes, it was painful to put down.

I love how this one is setting up. As usual, I have no clue as to the guilty party. About Henry & Walt: (view spoiler)[There brief conversation roadside was a riot. I could easily picture Henry stretch out on his truck asking Walt to "apologize." Ha! Gotta love the banter between those two! (hide spoiler)]

I'm finished with and it was another fantastic book. I gave this one five stars. It read like an old western and I did NOT see the whodunnit coming!

I don't know why it feels so slow, but I'm waiting for something to happen other than inner monologues of "He/she is hot and I want to, but I can't." It really isn't that bad, so maybe I'm in an impatient reading mood?

I'm not sure if I'm ready for Cady and Micheal to get married. Its seems too soon.

I thought, like Walt, that Bill was going to shoot him, yet he takes him out to Walt's family ranch. That was a bit of a surprise.
The fight at the AR was disturbing but definitely fits the setting of this book. Most surprising was Walt himself fighting. I knew he would win but his way of winning was a bit disturbing.. it does't fit with the Walt we know.
I am still no closer to finding out who killed Wade. I still don't think Mary did it. (hide spoiler)]

I agree. (view spoiler)[Six months isn't long, especially considering how much Cady has been through during that time. It sounds like Michael isn't really pressing her and she's smart enough not to just spew out an answer. That's so true to her personality.

The fight scene struck me as Walt snapping under extreme pressure. It bugged me more in book 1, when he knocked his former deputy senseless for roughing up a prisoner. I would've felt better about this scene if he'd been struck first, or held back a bit on that last roundhouse punch. Bottling up bad emotion is a bad thing for everybody...especially Walt.

I've always imagined Walt to be patient to a fault...and he has been...but I think it was the author's way of showing a bit of flawed humanity. Being spit on is a pretty insulting act. Having just talked to Cady about getting married, I can see why that would scald his last nerve bare. (hide spoiler)]

wow, it was a good one! I knew Mary didn't kill Wade, but I didn't figure it was Wade until I was reading it. I like the turn about with Mary. Now she is ready to live and rebuild her life.

(view spoiler)[Aw...I kinda liked Geo. Between his winter romance and hidden intellect, I was intrigued. Poor guy. I also think someone else had a hand in his demise and helped him along to the Pearly Gates. I have to stay I'm not totally surprised about the marijuana farm. It seemed like a Duane thing to do. I wonder if Geo and him were fighting about it?

Now what in the world is up with Sancho's baby? Something tells me it's more serious than colic. I'm hoping Walt gets him over his Bullet Fever. He fits into the crew so well and I'd hate to see him leave.

So the wedding is a go! I still think it's early, but I do like Michael. I thin he's a good choice for Cady. (hide spoiler)]

This book is so hard to put down! I fell asleep reading it last night. LOL!

I think you'll really enjoy it. This book should come with a humor warning. I've laughed so hard in some places that my eyes are watering.

I'd feel bad for Walt if I could stop chuckling. He's not having the best of luck lately and should've known that was going to happen. I'm wondering if Ozzie is the front man for the marijuana operation, or if it's someone else? (hide spoiler)]

Whew! This was good! I'm having a fit trying to pick my favorite in the series. It seems like each one gets better and better. This wrapped up so neatly, while still keeping me surprised. I had the wrong person pegged...again. LOL!

(view spoiler)[I laughed morbidly in placed until my stomach hurt. Some of my favorite scenes:

1. Walt questioning Duane and Gina about why Geo was tied to the back of their car.
2. Walt & Vic bluffing their way into the basement.
3. Chasing Ozzie through town shops and business.
4. Vic ribbing Walt in the ER after he was sprayed with Bear mace.
5. DOG! Love, love, love his heroic rescue from Sundance.

I wasn't sure how I felt about Walt & Vic in the beginning, but it's starting to grow on me. As long as the relationship stays out of the mainline of the story and the chemistry in the work relationship doesn't change, I think I can handle it. She's young for him, but I'm not totally freaked out by it as I was earlier. (hide spoiler)]

As I said in my review, it amazes me how the author comes up with fresh new ideas for his stories. There's no obvious "formula" writing going on. He drops his characters into brand new territory with each book, yet keeps them true to their nature. Love this series!
