I definitely didn’t agree with Patsy’s decision to leave Tru and nothing changed my mind by the time I reached the end of the book. I felt like everything Patsy did up until the very end was all about herself. From the beginning she knew she had no intentions of ever returning to Pennyfield yet she lied to her daughter. What made it worse for me was that she didn’t reach out to Tru out of shame because she was scared to face her own mistakes or what she perceived as her personal failures. I get it’s easier said than done but Patsy was just being selfish. The only person who told her the raw uncut truth in my opinion was finally Roy in the end. Everyone else I felt like kept trying to give her a free pass. It’s funny how she left Tru as a motherless child which is basically what her own mother did to her when she got “saved.” Don’t even get me started on Patsy and Cicely 🙄 I noticed she didn’t mention her motives sparked by Cicely for leaving her when she finally tried to reconcile with Tru.
