Just days before a massive exhibition opens at the popular New York Museum of Natural History, visitors are being savagely murdered in the museum's dark hallways and secret rooms. Autopsies indicate that the killer cannot be human...

But the museum's directors plan to go ahead with a big bash to celebrate the new exhibition, in spite of the murders.

Museum researcher Margo Green must find out who-or what-is doing the killing. But can she do it in time to stop the massacre?

I am a huge huge fan of the movie version of this book and I am so excited to read it and hopefully get a more intensive and scary story. It seems some of the characters are a bit different but still the overall story (which I'm sure will make it easier for me to follow along) seems to be the same. Curious to see who Pendergast is when the only character names I remember name are Whitney (now Whittlesey) D'Gosta and Margo. Only started the intro so far but looking forward to getting in at least a few chapters tonight!

I’m glad she put it together so quickly just by seeing the figurine, the three claws and the human/reptile representation of what Pendergast was just talking about. Wonder what there reactions will be when they see the dna results. Bones so thick bullets can’t pierce them, hunts in the dark and seems to know they layout of the building better than the employees smh. I know it’s going to find the director and others next and I’m happy it’s going after them instead of everyone else. It’s all their fault. (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[Personally I absolutely enjoyed this. I was freaked out a few times and the suspense had me on edge. My one complaint was how they took down the creature. Kind of I don’t know corny and not as exciting as I was hoping for. Sadly the movie does a better killing of the creature. But what the movie doesn’t have is that ending with Greg. Omg is he flipping crazy, what a lunatic, I’m honestly wondering now, knowing that this book is the first in the Pendergast series, if Greg’s creations will show up in later books? And to think they have so much stored away and only 5% is shown to the public. It's like a nerds dream lol. Also love that there's been this urban legend about a museum beast and no one gives it any thought. With how massive that place is, there is clearly a million and one places for something to actually live and hide. Pretty scary especially since the place is so big there's not even up to date or accurate maps of it all! (hide spoiler)]

Not only was the creature actually Dr. Whittlessy, we have stupid old Kawakita not only using and manipulating the hormones/virus from the fibers and playing God but he's also manipulating it as a drug and selling it. Total facepalm and such a great end. This was a reread for me and I loved it once again. Honestly though I hate how the final shot that takes down the monster is not shown just talked about after the fact. I thought I missed it and even went back to look for it but nope it's just left open to be told by Margo and Pendergast, that's a bummer but overall I can't complain, I loved it. Def going to read the second one soonish (hide spoiler)]

OMG right?!?! Isn't that end just a killer lol. Without the epilogue I would have still enjoyed it but not nearly as much. (view spoiler)[I don't know if I actually blame the tribe so much. Really what they did was kind of slick and sneaky, having someone turn into the beast to take out their enemies. And then at the end of the day the Brazilian gov't wiped out their whole tribe. They'd probably been doing this for centuries too so I'm not sure if I can feel bad they are gone! That beast was vicious and far too smart (hide spoiler)]

I'm pretty open, so for book two just let me know when will work for you, I'm def down. Enjoyed that one a lot too, deals a lot with underground New York which honestly just fascinates me there's a whole world under there!!
