This thread is for those who wish to find their own fun and spooky read. I'm reading a terrific story by Ray Bradbury called

I have truly loved this book! It is has brought back so many childhood memories of Halloween's gone by. I hope you will try to find this. Meanwhile, I realized today I neglected to set up a Holiday Reading thread for November, so stay tuned! It will be up in a few days because of some logistical reasons.
I first read The Halloween Tree when I was 11 reread it a few years ago. I love all the multi cultural Halloween centered adventures the boys have. My favorite part is the Day of The Dead. The only thing I dislike is the “druid” part in the beginning. Samhain is a time, not a person. There’s no such deity as Lord Samhain. He was invented by some amateur 18th century English folklorist, and is, unfortunately, perpetuated in poorly researched books and web posts. As a practicing Druid/witch myself, this bothers me, but it’s a book of its time, and captures the magic of Halloween nicely.
Very good point. :-) I finished reading this two days ago. Loved it. It's definitely a children's night, imagination fully on tap. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't gotten to it yet, but wishes to.
I hope I didn’t complain too much about the one thing that bothered me. I loved the camaraderie and joyful creepiness of the boys’ Halloween antics. Bradbury is one of my favorite authors and this is a great holiday read.
You didn't! :-) I have been trying to think of how to express my favorite part without detracting from the experience. Mine was in the Be Still part towards the end when all gets quiet.
Read it last year. I liked it better than the animated movie that had Leonard Nimoy as the voice of Mr. Moundshroud. Actually, Leonard was the best part of the cartoon.
