I have a kindle fire and a Nook. Both a bit different, a wider range of titles and authors on Amazon Kindle, the Nook has a better battery life though.

I am with you, Elaine. When I get my Kindle in November, I will still be consulting my IPad Kindle app to check out the pretty book covers. Can't imagine not seeing those.

My idea is at the moment, I send a message to the whole group and asking them to read for November Creep and/or Freak.

As we know that we will have a question/answers soon, end of the month.

Jennifer Hillier is busy and has not got back to me with final dates.

But we will also have a new November Book Pal, and I think some quick readers are doing two books.

How does this sound.

I was also thinking of asking David and Ty to do a Q and A in December, and asking the group to read David's book and possibly both Ty books.

This way we are supporting our authors, reading books based on our Q & A.

(so not reading a author's book/book pal and BOTM)

Agree or disagree ?

That will take us to the new years, and in January a Q & A with member author Dawn Whiddel.

Also have over 40 authors I am waiting for, plus more of our own authors like Tom Bale.

That sounds a plan Sean!

Tim The Enchanter | 397 comments I like doing the book pals and wouldn't want to skip it. Honestly, I have never done a BOTM in any group and am not likely to do it soon.

Thanks for your feedback, Tim.

message 58: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments The Book Pal is pretty popular, I wouldn't mess with success. My preference is on one BOTM at a time, because I'm involved in other reading clubs, but I'm most active in this one so you must be doing things right! We could vote on a member author they way we did on Take One With You. That seemed to generate some buzz? I'll support whatever you decide :)

Encouraging members to read the authors' books during their Q&A seems the best way forward, for now, see how things go with time. Book Pals is growing in popularity and that's brilliant!

I just use my laptop to feed my Kindle ebooks, or over feed it and have only ordered via my Kindle, favorite authors.

message 63: by Cyndi (new)

Cyndi | 2 comments I love Book Pals because it helps me cross a book that I own off of my TBR list. I also like BOTM because it will introduce me to authors I haven't read before. So they both are a plus to me. I do like the idea of reading a book from the author that is doing a Q&A too, but I think that would have to be our BOTM. Otherwise it would be too many books to follow.

message 64: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10512 comments Mod
Seems most are happy with this, keeping the BOTM with the Q & A.

We will keep to this plan if we have a planned Q & A.

Keep the success of the Book pals as it is.

News changes every day !!!!

Jennifer Hillier has contacted me and explained that she is due to give birth 20th November and also finish her fourth book before that date !!

So we have agreed to do a Q & A in January of February.

So I propose/suggest we add her two books as a November/December book read.

But will ask David, Ty and Dawn how they would like to fit in, But we could read their books first and fit in two Q & A one, end of November, one mid/late December.

Then Jennifer late January.

How is that ?

Sounds good to me. Some members have already read David and Ty's. They would be good places to start if they have the time.

Ty I will ask for 3rd week of December

If okay with you two ?

Theresa Moretimer (tmoretimer) | 71 comments Hello all. As an author, I must apologize for not corresponding as often as I'd like. I attend a lot of speaking engagements on the prevention of domestic violence and have been doing two book signings a month. I sincerely apologize for not being here often enough. That being said, I enjoy the BOTM even though I don't comment very often. I also am active in Book Pals and do write back and forth with my partners. I would like to say that I am going to make a bigger effort to participate. I agree with Sean that as authors we should read and recommend other author's works. I have participated in the Q&A's and had a good time doing so. Remember when you are asking an author a question that there is no such thing as a bad question. I am looking forward to a bigger participation. Have a beautiful rest of the weekend.

Thanks, nice to know.

I suspect there are a few members who are involved with reading posts, but do not add comments often or authors who are quite busy.

I was just on David's thread earlier tonite and his Q&A is set for November 24, Perri. Ty is set for Dec 15. The threads are already open for questions (under Authors).

Perri | -43 comments Thanks, Christine!

Stephanie Garner | 1 comments I like the Q&A and BOTM idea. Another thriller author I heard will do interviews on Goodreads is Landon Parham I saw a FOX News interview on him and his fiction crime writing that raises awareness on taboo social issues. His debut, First Night of Summer was a bestseller last year. I personally thought it was tragically yet beautifully written. Maybe someone could try to contact him and see if he would do a live interview. :)

I love BOTM I read for 2 groups. One of the books that is being read was finished by some in the group that we started to discuss the 2nd book in the series. So many different opinions and comments are being made.

Chris, I saw that. I finished All Good Deeds a week ago, read Taunting the Dead and now am reading See Them Run. And I haven't even commented on the threads yet! I have to get to that party ASAP! Have you read Taunting yet? Oh, you might be interested in the Pick It For Me thread in this group started this last weekend. Over 20 participants and a ton of fun so far. As someone called it, it's like a Group Reads Free For All!

We will sort shortly another BOTM, depending on our next Q & A authors.

Last year we had a Q&A 4-6 times, so will try to get more.

And also sort a BOTM.

Yes Pick It For me is becoming our busiest thread.

message 82: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Richards (lisadawnrichards) | 70 comments Are we going to have a BOTM for March? I must be lost in threads because I don't see it.

Thanks

message 83: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I didn't think we did BOTMs here.

message 84: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Yes we do, but the format varies. Might just be the Pivk It For Me for March, but will see what Sean says. This month it is Taunting the Dead and author Mel Sherratt is doing Q&A today (Tuesday).

message 85: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
We tend to do BOTM when we have an author Q&A which is not always every month.

message 86: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10512 comments Mod
This is someting we are looking at.

As mentioned to Lisa in a PM

We don't want to bombard members with books to read.

Like this month for my self, I have 6 books.

We all seem to be busy with Book Pal, Pick It For Me, and our Q & A.

I know we have not a confirmed Q & A after today at the moment.

Although some want to read a BOTM, and I am quite happy to add 5-10 books to a poll and vote!

Thoughts please.

But don't forget waiting for lots of authors to get back to me.

I agree with Christine, I think it works well at the minute. Offering different options with no pressure.

message 89: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Richards (lisadawnrichards) | 70 comments I am good with the way it is too. I was just confused and thought the Q&A may have been a BOTM (LOL). Yeah I am confused easily (HA)Sorry for the mix-up everyone. Sean thanks for clearing that up for Me.

message 90: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10512 comments Mod
Just want to make sure everyone is happy

I think the way we do it is fine and works well, and good to leave free if we do get a Q & A confirmed.

Waiting for two top authors ar the moment.

Plus always offers from our own authors.

message 91: by [deleted user] (new)

Just putting in my two cents: I like a group read each month, with a poll up to vote on something to read. I wasn't sure how things worked regarding the reads here.

message 92: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I'd love to get Linwood Barclay or maybe Karin Slaughter in.

message 93: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10512 comments Mod
Both have been BOTM and Q&A authors.

message 94: by Freda (new)

Freda Malone | 418 comments Might want to keep in mind that we are growing and fast! The new members haven't had a chance to do BOTM and Q&A authors. Though they can always read the discussions/Q&A threads, they have come to late in the 'game' to participate. It can be discouraging. It is like being the last one to the lunch line and all the good food has been taken, leaving you with wilted lettuce. LOL

However, I agree with Christine and Janet. :)

I am finding it difficult this subject !!

I do get a rare Pm asking about BOTM.

But most PM I get are to say they are happy as it is.

I mainly think we have it right, as we have had more
Q & A authors than any other group, which means we have read quite a few BOTM's alone.

Then we have BOTH Pick Of The Month and Book Pal

Our group started the Book Pal 8-9 months ago, now many groups follow/copy. We were one of the first to do Book Pal.

Now we also have our Pick Of The Month which took off straight away.

With all these books I think this is enough, although I do understand your comments Freda, I think mostly we have it right.

It would help is we could get our "Silent" members to give us their opinion, the 1,500 members who have NOT posted at all !

They are probably long gone, Sean.

message 97: by [deleted user] (new)

Sean, I think you and Janet do a cracking job in this group.
Best group on Goodreads.
Love books pals and BOTM.
And love love love PIFM!
I personally think that is plenty each month, most of us have books coming out of our ears anyway to keep us busy.

message 98: by [deleted user] (new)

I know there are a lot of members, but I personally think its the regulars who chat/comment/post in this group which make it special.

At the moment, Kimberley we both do have books coming out of our ears .... LOL

message 100: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Ditto ditto ditto to what Kimberley said, Sean. This is the best of all the many groups I have sampled, and PIFM is the best game in town. The Q&As have been wonderful as well. Couldn't handle yet another book per month.
