Matthew Johnson Currently re-reading "The Boys of Summer" by Roger Kahn, and just finished Ida B. Wells' "The Red Record," which was a very difficult one to get through, but is such an important piece of text.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I read The Yield by Tara June Winch.
A compelling narrative unfolding in three related threads that tell of the abuse and oppression of the indigenous population of Australia. It won the 2020 Miles Franklin Literary Award. I thought it was very well done.

Louise Bélanger | 43 comments Just finished Framed, the sequel to Songbird. Cozy whodunnit set in the 1920s. You don’t need to read the first book to enjoy the new mystery but the real question is why. Why would you deny yourself the joy of all the adventures of Jax, Laura and Ace? Both books deserve more than 5 🌟

I'm a big AC fan too! You've read some I have turned down b/c of others saying they are not good -- The Big Four is one. I loved 'Caribbean Mystery.' Do you listen to 'All About Agatha' podcast?

Pouya 'Normal People' by Sally Rooney. It's good, but writing style seems a bit too simple. And I wanted her to sometimes describe the scenes in more detail.

And I have just finished 'Crime and Punishment' last week.

Fred Rutter | 13 comments Just finished "The Heavenly Table" by Donald Ray Pollock, and really liked it. Themes from his previous works ( "Knockemstiff" and "The Devil All the Time") are revisited here - namely the struggles of the poor in Appalachia, and the depravity that bubbles underneath, but this new book, set in 1915, has a clear and exciting story arc.The Heavenly Table

I read The Writing Diet, by Julia Cameron. I am often trying to cut back to take off five pounds (keep gaining and losing the same five!), and she has some really, really good ideas. She is the well-recognized author of The Writers' Way.

message 4224: by Frank (new)

Frank Settineri (franksett) | 29 comments I'm reading (re-reading) two articles in Forbes regarding crypto currencies (blockchain and DAOs). Talk about a tower of babel. These (mainly youngsters) are worth hundreds of millions of dollars, at least in the ethersphere or whatever it's called now-a-days, and I haven't a clue what they're buying, how they make ether (aka money) or how huge corporations are using it to make things faster, cheaper and safer. I think I'll stick to books - my next read is Vendetta by Richard Gambino, which I purchased with real money.

This captivating "cozy" zings readers at the end, when the cozy goes beyond quirky with a shocker! Highly recommend!!

I usually try to upload a review as soon as possible, but this one is lagging. I'm still trying to get my head around it.

In the meantime, I've started 'The Flower to the Painter' by Gary Inbinder. I'm gonna like this one if the first few chapters are anything to go on!
