What are you currently reading (or just finished)?
I'm about half way though this book and it is keeping my interest. The author James S.A. Corey has taken an interesting turn by having the story told from two different views, two different heros and at two different places all at the same time. At first I found it a bit confusing, then the jump form hero to hero or actually perhaps losers who are forced to be heros falls into place and I am enjoying the two points of view. I will follow up as there is a hidden mystery acting behind the scenes also. Hmm.
I just finished reading "Irresponsible Government" by Mr. Rathgeber. It is about the concentration of power in the Prime Minister's Office in Canada and the corresponding impotency of the elected House of Commons. Although it is seven old now, the phenomenon is more true than ever. Every Canadian citizen should read this book.
Just finished Never Doubt I Love: A Tale of Mary After "Pride and Prejudice". Beautifully written. Totally adored this regency romance book. Highly recommend it.
I just finished Melville's Moby Dick and Billy Budd, one very long, the other too short. I have deferred reading both for many years and now I wish I had read them earlier. I will read both again. I have posted reviews of both books.Moby-Dick or, the Whale
I am reading

I am reading 'The Code Breaker...' by Walter Isaacson. The title is longer and it includes Jennifer Doudna's name. Good book so far about CRISPR and DNA editing, somewhat technical. It brings up some scary possibilities, perfect for Halloween.
I just finished State of Terror by Hillary Clinton and Louise Penny. It was a timely, thought provoking god thriller, where a middle-aged woman kicks some serious political ass!
I finished
which is a fictionalized story about Wyatt Earp and everyone involved in the OK Corral shootout. Nicely done.I just started
which is a kind of prequel to this author's Cork O'Conner mystery series. So far, it has been another good read.
currently reading an offer from a gentleman. I hate Benedict but I'm so intrigued that I can't stop reading.
The Magical Sex Book: Create And Sustain Amazing Sex With Four Simple Steps. Released on Amazon 10/25/21, #1 Best Seller, New Releases. Comments and reviews on Amazon and Goodreads please.
I finished Skulduggery Pleasant, as well as the second book in the same series, which is called Playing with Fire. Now I'm reading the third book in the series, which is called The Faceless Ones. So far I'm really enjoying these books.
Going through a light phase at the moment - cosy mysteries with some humour. Just finished Murder Gets a Makeover (A Jaine Austen Mystery Book 18) by Laura Levine
- and here's my review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...I'm now working my way through Dev Haskell Box Set 8-14 (Dev Haskell - Private Investigator) by Mike Faricy
I'm reading Richard Powers Bewilderment after The Overstory, and recommend both very highly. the former touches on an area particularly close to my heart and my life as I raised an unusual child and three unusual grandchildren, which made me think they must not be that "unusual". I believe the US has a faulty education system that singles out and ostracizes the highly gifted because they refuse to fit into the accepted mold.
I am nearly finished with
, a well written fantasy with some interesting nuances that set it apart from most fantasy novels. It was recommended by a friend, and so far I'd say he was right.
I finished The Faceless Ones, which I really enjoyed. Now I'm reading the next book in the series, Dark Days.
I've just finished Behind The Eyes of Dorian Gray by Beth A. Freely, definitely worth a read. A ghost story/romance with a difference, i wasn't sure it would work but it definitely did.
Just finished the Tea Ladies of St Jude's Hospital by Joanna Nell The Tea Ladies of St Jude’s Hospital Absolutely loved here books and this one was particularly familiar as I have a relative who volunteers at an organisation such as this, so can totally relate!
Always a joy to read, an always on the lookout for fellow Australian authors, and this book is a great one to add to the "must read" TBR pile!

I finished "Our Violent Ends" by Chloe Gong, now I'm working on "Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: Kindred (book 7)" by Lydia Sherrer. That last book will make me meet my goal of 30 books this year, once I can find the time to finish reading it, that is.Both books are very good, in their own ways. Our Violent Ends has some darker elements, but both authors are extremely talented.
If anyone is interested in reading/reviewing my novel called Normal Weird, The Kindle version is free for the next 4 days. Hope you like it. It is close to my heart.Shortly about the book:
Be prepared – there is nothing normal about this book. This is an inverted story of life, love and unlikely evolution.
The humanity of the 22nd century had to change… It was inevitable. Our progress created an irreversible evolutionary shift, challenging perceptions of what we consider normal and what we discern as weird. Does anyone truly know which is which?
What happens when a considered failure becomes an upgrade?...
‘CAPTIVATING, PROVOCATIVE, and intellectually INVIGORATING’.

The Ming Storytellers by Laura Rahme. An exquisite and complex story that gives a brilliant and humanizing portrayal of the great Ming eunuch navigator Zheng He.My review:

I finished Dark Days and really loved it. Then I read the next book in the series, which I also loved, and which is called Mortal Coil. Now I've just started reading Death Bringer, which is the sixth book in the series.
Just finished Revenge is Not Enough by Isabella Steel. It's a sure thing Alex Conway isn't going to be inviting any congressmen or senators over for Thanksgiving. And if he does, they might want to pass on eating what he plans to serve.Dealing death wholesale is a cold and lonely task. What could lower a man to kill without compassion. Alex Conway felt the senseless loss of his family due to bureaucratic bungling fit the bill. The loss of his insurance led to the death of his wife because she couldn’t get the treatment she needed. Still suffering her loss, his daughter dies from the same lack of treatment. Only then, alone and desperate, he hatches the plot to get his revenge by taking the lives of congressmen and senators that took his family from him.
Alex is discovered by a willing accomplice, Amelia, a mother who lost her daughter in much the same way. As the two carry out their mission we’re introduced to the seamy underbelly of political workings and cover-ups.
The story becomes a little fuzzy on how Amelia tracks down Conway or how the press hasn’t tumbled onto the story sooner since so many high-ranking officials are dying.
But Isabella Steel weaves a compelling story and carries the day with believable characters, scenes, and action. She drives home the old saying that when you seek revenge-dig two graves…three graves…four???
hey! I've just finished Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson (the 2nd book after A Good Girl's Guide to Murder)And it was mind blowing, even better than the first one, way more deep and sad i guess.
i can't wait to read the 3rd one!!
I"m currently reading God is for Real by Todd Burpo (author of Heaven is for Real). It's a light read, but not light spiritually. What I mean by that is that it's written in 'everyday English'; no theological terms or over-the-top trains of thought to try to follow. But, even as a children's minister, I'm finding new ways of thinking about God.I love this quote by Mr. Burpo:
"Crhii
stians are better OFF than other people. We are not better THAN other people."
Bingo.
Read Out of the Silent Planet by C S Lewis - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4346303316and
Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4355722926
I'm currently reading a novel by the great American writer, James Baldwin, called, 'Another Country.' The cover has a jazz drummer, and the novel reads like jazz music, outstanding. I've only almost completed the first chapter (his chapters are long!), but the characters and flavour of Harlem in the 80's is rife with out it was like to be a black person in America. Not many books hold my attention, but this one holds me without forcing myself to finish what I started. I studied Baldwin in university (mostly short stories), so jumped at the chance to pick this one up in our local Sally Ann store. I highly recommend it for writers who want to read good authors.
I'm reading 'Creek Songs' by Carolyn Mann. Great assortment of short stories that talk about lives, places, and situations that most of us live through one time or another in our lives. Great reading for relaxation. If I read too long, my skin starts to wrinkle. That's a problem with reading in the bathtub.
I am currently reading 'The Paris Package' by A.W. Hartoin. I am enjoying the novel as I have been to the places the novel is set in such as Venice, Vienna, Czech Republic, and Paris. I am enjoying reading the novel as the author has described the areas very well; also enjoying the adventure natue of the story (one after another) although sometimes I have problems with suspension of disbelief. Sometimes, it feels like an YA novel that I'd have loved reading during school years. I am only about a third of the book.
Just finished reading the current chapter of 'Malcom Karma', by Neil Christiansen. A crime noir series on Kindle vella. https://www.amazon.com/kindle-vella/s...Currently reading 'The 13th room' by Joeseph Shane on kindle vella. https://www.amazon.com/kindle-vella/s...
Creek Songs by Carol Mann. Great selection of short stories about events, places, and moments we've all shared moving through life.
