I read The Grass Is Singing by Doris Lessing. A compelling novel that shows the damaging impact of South African apartheid. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I read Freedom Hospital: A Syrian Story by Hamid Sulaiman; translated by Francesca Barrie.A graphic novel blending fact and fiction about the carnage and devastation during the Syrian civil war. A heartfelt attempt, but I didn't think it was entirely successful may be due to the nature of the medium.

Read Peter Ackroyd's The History of England: Volume II the Tudors and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3606344500.
This week I finished reading the book I was in the middle of this time last week, and read another two books by the same author. So, here's what I read, along with my book reviews. Star Minds Lone Wolves Team - All Missions
by Barbara G. Tarn
My rating: five out of five stars
This book was a great read. It was wonderful to join all these characters on so many of their missions, and get to know them a bit more in the process.

Star Minds Interregnum Volume 2
by Barbara G. Tarn
My rating: five out of five stars
This is another excellent collection of stories, which is once again a wonderful addition to the series. It's great getting to go on new adventures with
the characters I've grown to know - and in some cases really like - from previous books in the series, or - as is the case with a couple of the stories
- gain more insight in to a situation by seeing events from the point of view of another character.

Star Minds Sire Teens
by Barbara G. Tarn
My rating: five out of five stars
This was a fun read; I loved getting to see some of the characters I've read about in previous books when they were younger.
I read The Whispering Muse by the Icelandic author, Sjón. It is a curious blend of fiction with mythic elements. I thought it was quite good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as The Blue Fox.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Re-reading Eyewitness to the Civil War (The Complete History from Secession to Reconstruction)Edited by Neil Kagan - Narrative by Stephen G. Hyslop - Introduction by Harris J. Andrews.
Published by National Geographic - Washington, D.C. - 2006
I recently finished an enjoyable short story, Safe Haven as a prelude to reading The Running Game. Also just finished listening to The Paths Between Worlds, which was very good. Ends with a cliffhanger though.Currently reading How Not to Be Wrong: The Power of Mathematical Thinking and listening to Underground Airlines.
I'm just finishing N.K. Jemisin's The Fifth Season, and I just can't put it down! Will definitely be reading the other books in the series.
I have started reading
.Looking forward to how this mysterious adventure unfolds after some great opening chapters set in New York City.
Finished Odd Apocalypse by Dean Koontz and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3618081048
Please check out my first book, The Chosen Few, at the following link and let me know what you think: https://www.amazon.com/CHOSEN-FEW-JAS...
I read Painter to the King by Amy Sackville. A portrayal of the court of King Philip IV of Spain by focusing on the artist Diego Velázquez and his portraits of Philip and his family. The writing was very clever, but I think it was a little over the top. She seemed to favor style over substance. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished
Descendant of the Crane by Joan He. The plot was immersive although the first third was slow. But I had a hard time connecting with the characters. 3 stars. My review:

This week I read three books. So, here's what I read, along with my book reviews. Coraline
by Neil Gaiman
My rating: five out of five stars
This was an excellent imaginative and creepy read, which I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend. I ended up reading it in one sitting, because I just
couldn't put it down. Also, I've seen the movie a few times, and was impressed at how close the book and movie are to each other.

The Ballad of Mrs. Molony (The Hat, #3)
by C.S. Boyack
My rating: five out of five stars
Having read the previous books in this series, I was eager to read this one, and let me tell you I was definitely not disappointed! I devoured this book
in one sitting. It's an excellent read, filled with action and humour, with some great rodeo action and paranormal activity thrown in. Plus, the characters
are fantastic, well-rounded, and believable as real people - yes, even The Hat. Like I said, I read this book after having previously read the first two
books in the series, but you could easily read and enjoy this book without having read the others.

Murder They Wrote
by Judi Lynn, C.S. Boyack, Mae Clair, Kathleen Palm, Julia Donner, D.P. Reisig, and Rachel Sherwood Roberts
My rating: four out of five stars
This is an excellent collection of stories, which made for a great read. As with all collections like this, there were stories I enjoyed more than others,
though all were well-written and worth the read, and this collection has a fantastic mixture of genres, so the stories would appeal to a variety of tastes.
My favourite story was "Within the Plum Attic" by Kathleen Palm, with "From The Files Of Jason Fog" by C.S. Boyack and "A Winter Reckoning" by Mae Clair
in tied second place, though all the stories were enjoyable in their own way.
Finished Jane Dunn's Elizabeth & Mary: Cousins, Rivals, Queens and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3618084802
Just started ‘Their Little Secrets’ by Mark Billingham - took a while to get used to the switches in tenses to mark the point of views, but I’m into it now.
About halfway through
. It's a thick one so it'll be a while before I finish and then go on to books 2 & 3 in the series. So far, pretty darn good.
Read Double Cross by Malorie Blackman and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3635076657
Reading The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft. Unlike some editions I've seen, this beautiful hardback edition is exhaustive and contains Lovecraft's earliest published stories, at the ripe old age of 15.
I read a novella: I'jaam by Sinan Antoon. The subject matter is difficult. It is about the experiences of a young Iraqi university student held in detention during the time of Saddam Hussein. It captures the fear and brutality of living under a totalitarian government. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished "Asylum" by Aaron Paul Lazar. Very fast paced, with fascinating characters and a scary setting. Perfect for a dark, rainy evening at home.
Just finished reading Shadow Lake Vampire Society The War by Katie French & Wendi L. Wilson the last book in their trilogy.
I recently finished The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein and I returned it to the library, but I can't stop thinking about it. May need my own copy!
I am reading Marcel Proust and am about to finish volume 2. I read Cities of the Plain many years ago and it washed over me. Decided last month to read Swann's Way and it did the same, but the years have taught me that this is what is supposed to happen. I wrote a review or sorts as well...https://ezinearticles.com/expert/Phil...
Just finished The Obelisk Gate, started Sinai Unhinged, taking a little break from The Broken Earth trilogy to read a couple of indie books, but will definitely be back for The Stone Sky later.
Just finished: Blessed and Transformed: Living the Life God IntendedExcellent book. I highly recommend it.
It comforts the soul in a deep way.
Each chapter is supported by Bible scriptures which enrich the message and make it trustworthy.
The author also shares her story, a beautiful testimony of her walk with God.
This book will not rest on my bookshelf because I will revisit chapters once again along my own walk with God.
The entire book is a blessing from God.
Almost finished ‘Their Little Secrets’ by Mark Billingham. Thoroughly enjoyable... Tom Thorne is the main character and I’ve grown to enjoy his grumpy sense of humour. Just reaching the climax - and the big reveal - of the mystery. I’ll keep you posted.
