I read The Happy Marriage by Tahar Ben Jelloun, a thought-provoking novel which interrogates class and racial tensions, age-disparity, and a traditional versus a modern view of a Moroccan marriage. I thought it was an interesting approach, skillfully handled. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Read Tanith Lee's East of Midnight and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3556854232

SkyView: Lord of the Wills
I just purchased 2 kindle editions. The first one is a thriller that we’re reading in one of my groups: The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. I plan to start this one first. The other edition Indian Country by Kurt Schlichter is satire/humor/fiction. It is the second in a series. The first was pretty imaginative. I wrote a review for that one here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I am reading The Arm: Inside the Billion-Dollar Mystery of the Most Valuable Commodity in Sports by Jeff Passan. I just finished Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson.
Just read part 3 of Den Patrick's trilogy, The Girl on the Liar's Throne and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3567375260.
I've got two reviews for you today. So, here they are:~
Ravenous (War of Nytefall, #5)
by Charles E. Yallowitz
My rating: five out of five stars
This is another excellent addition to this series, which shows some fantastic character development, and has an exciting and action-packed plot. Some delicate
topics - including both grief and addiction - are touched upon in this story, which were handled very well in my opinion. Had life not gotten in the way,
I could have easily devoured this book in one sitting.

The Destruction of Rose (Albany Nightingale Duet, #1)
by Rachel M. Raithby
My rating: five out of five stars
This book was so much more than the highschool romance I went in to it expecting. It's a fantastic read about all the stuff teenagers have to deal with,
including bullying, peer pressure, etc. The characters are believable, even if they're the kind of people I would want as neither friend nor enemy, and
the plot is gripping and full of emotion and drama. I can't wait to read the sequel!
*NOTE: I was given a free copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This fact has in no way influenced either my opinion of the
book or the contents of this review.
The Lambs of London by Peter Ackroyd.Historical fiction set in late 18th/early 19thC London. A little disappointing because I had hoped it would be about Charles and Mary Lamb. Instead the focus was on William Ireland, the man who claimed to have discovered some never-before-seen manuscripts by Shakespeare.

I read another Alina Bronsky novel. Broken Glass Park is her debut novel. Translated from the German by Tim Mohr. It's good, but I think her later novels are much stronger. She is generally very good at doing first-person narratives. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Read Arbella: England's Lost Queen by Sarah Gristwood and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3570716950.
I read really great short novel: The Wind That Lays Waste by Selva Almada, translated from the Spanish by Chris Andrews.A wonderful story, skillfully executed in vivid imagery and concise diction. The narrative is deceptively simple but it packs a powerful punch.

Re-reading the novel
Dust
by Charles Pellegrino.Published in 1998 by Avon Books, this terrifyingly plausible what-if nightmare is especially relevant to today's activities and concerns regarding the 'COVID-19' pandemic.
The storyline depicts a possible unnecessary and tragic outcome of a plague-like situation if allowed to be dismissed or diminished by sceptics for purely selfish motives.
I'm reading Dying Inside by Robert Silverberg, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It was written back in the 70s, and the characters are appropriately colourful! I chose to read it as my own book has telepathic characters, and it's really interesting to see how differently Silverberg has envisaged the telepathy from how I did. If you like his writing and classic SF, check it out! I hope to review it when I've finished it.
currently reading Black Ops
I liked the first 3 books in this series and so far am having fun reading this one.
I had a more productive reading week this time around and read three books. So, here's what I read along with my reviews for them:~
Not So Sweet Maria (Sisters By Marriage #1)
by Jessica Spencer
My rating: four out of five stars
This is a sweet little romance, which makes for a lovely light-hearted read. There were a couple of minor issues, some of which were editing related, and
some of which were character related, but none of which were enough to stop me from considering this an enjoyable read. I'm glad I read this book, and
look forward to curling up with the other books in the series.

The Resurrection of Us (Albany Nightingale Duet #2)
by Rachel M. Raithby
My rating: five out of five stars
I love that this book continues the story right where the previous one left off. This was an excellent sequel, and the character development was fantastic...
I liked the main characters a lot more in this book, since you get to see just how much more there actually is to them than was revealed in the first book.
Also, the plot was great, and the ending was really satisfying.

book or the contents of this review.

Not Just Lovely Laura (Sisters by Marriage #2)
by Jessica Spencer
My rating: four out of five stars
This was another sweet romance by this author, and made for a lovely read. My only complaints are that the story took a while to get going because of all
the backstory from the previous book which could have been shortened, and the book could do with another round of edits. Other than that though it's an
enjoyable read with some fantastic characters - those we met in the previous book, as well as some we didn't - so is well worth reading if you're a fan
of this type of romance.
Just finished The Go Between by LP Hartley, which was quite superb and have now started A Clean Kill in Tokyo by Barry Eisler.
I am currently reading- A Song Of Wraiths and Ruin, by Roseanne A. Brown. It is an adventure of two young people, one in line to be the next queen, one very poor, and the social class issue. The author uses new words and settings that are vivid and introduce us to another culture and time frame. A very engaging book.
