Now reading "Who Murdered Yitzhak Rabin?" by the late, great Barry Chamish, maybe one of Israel's best journalists, ever. As with the murder of JFK, this assassination has many of the same earmarks. Interested in Israeli politics? This is a must read.
Just finished 'Year of Wonders' Geraldine Brooks and just started 'Boy Swallows Universe' Trent Dalton.
Didn't read as much this week as I'd hoped to. Only finished one book in time to review it this week:The Selected Poems of K Morris
by K. Morris
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is a wonderful collection of poems by this author. I remember many of them from other collections I’ve read by him, but didn’t mind reading those
again. It was difficult to pick favourites to mention in this review, because I have half a dozen favourites just from section one (the book is split in
to several sections). I really love the poem “Why Do I Write?” though. “Lost” and “Raining” are also favourites of mine.
Read books 2 and 3 of Joe Abercrombie's First Law trilogy and reviewed them:Before They Are Hanged - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2963703654.
Last Argument of Kings - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2963703816.
Prompted by a re-read on another group, read Garth Nix's Sabriel, first of the Abhorsen series, and sadly found it less involving than the first time around - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1274428027.
I am currently reading Two Heads, Two Spikes by Jason Paul Rice.I admit I'm finding it hard going. It is a fantasy tale set in the land of Donegal. I found that odd, since Donegal is a part of Ireland! it would have been better to have called it something imaginary rather than a real place! I invent names for my fantasy places!
The plot is very complicated and jumps from one place and person to another. I am rather confused, much of the time as to who we are talking about. There is, what seems like, a cast of thousands! Also, the characters don't always have distinctive names, some beginning with the same letter, which I think authors should try to avoid.
The writing is very poor. The author does not understand some of the basic tenets of grammar. For example, in dialogue he does not begin a separate line For a new speaker, so you can easily get confused as to who is speaking.
When I've finished the book, I will write a fuller review, but suffice it to say that I don't think the author has had an edit or even a beta read before publishing.
Finished Thomas Burnett Swann's Lady of the Bees and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2955794217.
Finished C J Sansom's Dissolution and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2498550682.
Read Thomas Burnett Swann's Where is the Bird of Fire? and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2979823508.
I've got three reviews for you this week, so here they are:Dark Age
by Pierce Brown
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I'm torn with this book between wanting to give it a full five star rating, and refusing to do so, so I'm giving it 4 stars.
Firstly: WOW! I had to keep putting this book down just so I could catch my breath. Also, this book was certainly well titled, because it really does tell
of dark times for the characters; if you got atatched to characters in previous books, you're going to need a box of tissues handy, because you're in for
an emotional ride. So, I'm sure you're asking why, if I'm saying, "WOW!" am I refusing to give it the full five stars? Because the violence and gore were
plastered across the pages, so to speak, and sometimes it felt like a bit much. Still, it was a great read, and I'm looking forward to the next book.
Nano Z
by Brad Knight
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
My actual rating is 3.5 stars, but I rounded up. Honestly, if it wasn't for two issues I have, this book would have stood a chance of being a five star
read. So, why wasn't it? Well, firstly, the "zombies" were being called "meat puppets" even before the main characters new of the cause of them being the
way they were, and it got irritating quickly. Secondly, the writing felt a bit clunky, and there was too much telling, and not enough showing. Other than
those things, this was a fantastic action-packed read, with great characters.
Nano Z: Salvation
by Brad Knight
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Though it was a kind of good read, I wasn't as impressed with this book as I was with the first one in this series. This book suffers from the same issues
the first book has with clunky writing, too much telling instead of showing, and "meat puppets" being an annoying and over-used term. On top of that, there
are a few things that don't make sense with how they happened, and others where the way things lined up was almost too perfect, making it harder to fully
appreciate the story. So, I liked it, but most definitely did not love it.
Cilka's Journey Historical Fiction, Based on real people, places & records. The sequel to The Tattooist of AuschwitzI finished reading Cilka's Journey by Heather Morris and it was an amazing book about an extraordinarily brave strong woman and what she had to endure in Auschwitz, Auschwitz-Birkenau & finally at a Siberian hard labour camp.
The Good Luck Girls YA, Historical Fiction, published by Hot Key Books/Tor Teen
A total change of pace and subject next, as i have started reading The Good Luck Girls by Charlotte Nicole Davis. At just 28% I am already hooked.
Currently reading Vanished Kingdoms: The History of Half Forgotten Europe by Norman Davies, and very good it is too.Last book I read was Spook Street by Mick Herron. I'd link to my review but I don\t know how to.... :-)
Post Plague Kidnapping, by V. B. Law.It was pretty cool, a post apocalyptic, survival story, with hints of erotic romance.

You can either just put the web address in your post, or copy the text from the "blog this review" box in to your post in this thread.
Hope that helps. :)
Tonight I read Dead Aware: Vagrant Youth and Dead Aware: Zombie Mom I loved the theme of family within the novella's. Bot biological family but family that start as friends and stick together.
After reading book 1 I have got rather into the Shardlake series by C J Sansom so have now read (all I had to hand):Book 5 - Heartstone - review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2981055422
and
Book 6 - Lamentation -review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2981055866.
"Pumpkin Spice Murder" is about someone who goes crazy from seeing pumpkin spice everywhere I assume :p
Currently re-re-rereading A Confederacy of Dunces. Also looking forward to reading the Final Issue of The Realm Beyond Nov 8th. #fortresspublishinginc #therealmbeyond.

I read two books in the past week, so here are my reviews:Nano Z: Oblivion
by Brad Knight
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was a pretty good ending to the trilogy. It still suffers from the writing issues of the first two, but is otherwise a great read, with the potential to be an excellent one with some tweaks to improve the clunky writing issues.
Captives
by Nicholas Sansbury Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was an intense and action-packed story, which I would have gladly read in one sitting if the need to do other things - like sleep - hadn't stopped me from doing so. If you've read and enjoyed the previous books in the series, you're going to love this one. If you haven't, and are a fan of post apocalyptic/dystopian stories, you may want to grab this series.
I just finished The Pacifist by Mehreen Ahmed and started my first ever asynchronous Book Club on Facebook for The Testaments.
Just finished a Thomas Burnett Swann which has taken ages as I've been off reading the Shardlake novels - Moondust and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2959469326
