I recently discovered Peter F Hamilton when I read ‘Great North Road’.
Since then I’ve read six more of his books in the ‘Void’ series and I have to say the more I read the more I would proclaim Hamilton is (in my opinion) the greatest science fiction writer of all time.
First, you talk about ‘world building’ – Hamilton builds his worlds down to street names and directions through cities. No detail is left out.
His grasp and use of technology is unparalleled. While most sci-fi has one or two interesting concepts, each of Hamilton’s stories are filled with hundreds of mind blowing inventions from genetics to physics to advances in human modification to space travel. Yet these ideas never get in the way of the story but only serve to enhance it and move it along in unforeseen ways.
You like characters? Hamilton’s books are filled with them. Many are introduced at various points along the storylines when you least expect them while others flow through the entire series.
So far ‘Great North Road’ is my favorite but that’s not saying much when it comes to the ‘Void’ series where I’ve gotten lost for many hours a day…
Thanks Mr. Hamilton, through you I’ve rediscovered my love of reading.

Sounds like a good read. I must look him up.
Finished Hotel Silence by Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir.A quiet, subtle, and tender book by an Icelandic author who somehow manages to capture the poignancy and poetry of life in sparse, understated writing. It's quite amazing.

Just finished the The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Excellent book if you haven't read it. I'm now reading February's Regrets by A.E. Howe. It's the 4th book in his Larry Macklin murder mystery series. They're a fun read.

I am reading “Unraveled, Time to Hear: An Investment Toward Your Eternity” with our women’s group at church. It’s my book and I wanted to see how it worked as a Bible Study. We’re almost done. It’s going well and been a lot of learning fun!
Finished The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. I thought it was a light, easy, and enjoyable read, but I wasn't as thrilled with it as a lot of people seem to be.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished Warlight by Michael Ondaatje. An incredible novel about 1945 post-war London. Ondaatje does a phenomenal job of evoking a haunting atmosphere where nothing is quite what it seems. He explores the process by which shards of memory are pieced together to make sense of the past.

Re-read the first of Lian Hearn's Otori novels, Across the Nightingale Floor and updated my previous review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1404829504.
Finished Phil Rickman's first novel Crybbe (called Curfew in the States) and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2747889601.
Rafael Sabatini's "Scaramouche" translated to English. Sabatini certainly had a gift for descriptive, illuminated writing. Much more involved than the film version but still entertaining, it is quite an adventure to use his words to see the action in the mind's eye. Still in the laborious process and I haven't even gotten to the Moreau's fencing lessons yet!
Finished and reviewed The Adventures of Ibn Battuta: A Muslim Traveler of the Fourteenth Century by Ross E. Dunn. It recounts the 24-year journey of a 14th Century globe trotter as he traveled to the far reaches of the Islamic world. Professor Dunn situates each location in its historical and cultural context.
