Keith | 40 comments Finished reading Barracoon: The Story of the Last "Black Cargo", and was disappointed.

Finished listening to Followed by Frost, and was pleasantly surprised.

Next read will be H7n9 Penitence.

Thomas J. (chieftom) | 25 comments Just reading a fabulous book, sort of American Indian history with a mix of old and up-to-date religious aspect to it. Black Elk by Joe Jackson...not fiction.

Of course, one of my old standby's, The Third Dawn.

Sophia James (sophia100) | 26 comments I just finished "The Boy on the Beach" by Andrew Blair.
I really enjoyed it. It has elements I enjoy like obsessive love, moral dilemmas and quite beautiful Machiavellian revenge.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I finished The Mere Wife by Maria Dahvana Headley. Very loosely based on Beowulf, it takes place in and around a gated community.
I had some issues with the constant shifts, but the novel is compelling and raises some interesting questions.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I finished The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker. It is a retelling of the Iliad mostly in the voice of Briseis, Achilles' concubine. I thought Part 1 was very strong, but Parts 2 and 3 were pretty much a basic retelling of the events in the epic.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments Finished Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese.

A difficult book to read because it includes descriptions of Canada's horrendous treatment of First Nations children at the residential schools. Difficult but compelling and very well-written.

I'm 63% through it and it's exciting and fresh and new. The lead character I would liken to Frankenstein meets Nebula and it's got a Guardians of the Galaxy feel to it. I can't get enough!

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I finished Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage: Stories by Alice Munro. I'd forgotten how much I love reading her short stories. She has such a quiet way of writing that sort of sneaks up on you. I thought it was a wonderful collection.
