J.R. | 465 comments Getting near the end of The Blood, third in the Jem Flockhart series, by E. S. Thomson and just over 200 pages into Stephen King's The Outsider.
Highly recommend the Flockhart series, if you haven't read them.

Jenna Thatcher (jenna_thatcher) | 57 comments Kami Garcia wrote a series, first book is called Unbreakable, I think? I'm sorry, I'm awful with titles and names of characters and...I'm sorry!
But it wasn't bad! The only catch is that she never published a 3rd book, because of course the publisher wanted a trilogy instead of a duo but then decided not to keep going, because it didn't sell well....
And there's definitely a cliffhanger.

Pam Baddeley | 683 comments A re-read of the tense post apocalypse novel by Robert O'Brien, Z For Zachariah - reviewed - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1391795001.

message 1562: by Keith (new)

Keith | 40 comments Finished listening to The China Pandemic. Excellent first installment to a post apocalyptic series.

My next listen is Followed by Frost, a fantasy novel that I think may have too much romance for my taste. Hope I'm wrong about that.

Currently reading Barracoon: The Story of the Last "Black Cargo" by Zora Neale Hurston. Sad story of theife of a man who was brought to America on the last slave ship.

Sophia James (sophia100) | 26 comments I have just discovered, very late I know, Harlan Coben. They are not great works but they are great for pure escapism and he is a genius at making you read just one more page before you turn the light off and go to sleep.

A. J. Deschene (ajdeschene) | 34 comments Cinder: (Lunar Chronicles #1)

message 1566: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 425 comments I finished Eowyn Ivey's To The Bright Edge of the World inspired by the real life journey of Lieutenant Colonel Allen Forrester through Alaska’s unchartered territory in the 1880s. The narrative unfolds through journal entries, diaries, artifacts, newspaper clippings, etc. It is unique in many ways. I ended up loving it.

Rita Chapman | 566 comments I finished https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... last night. Stella Knightley runs two stories in parallel - a modern-day historian researching a famous courtesan for a film and the courtesan's life, which is a sad love story. Now I'm going to the library to look for the sequel!

J. Rubino (jrubino) Read "Beartown" for my book club, and almost finished with Peter Carey's "Jack Maggs" an early Victorian era thriller - has sort of the same vibe as the series "Taboo."

message 1596: by Simi (new)

Simi Sunny | 185 comments For the next book on the list, I'll be reading The Sisters Mederos by Patrice Sarath. I haven't read it, but I hope it's be a great read. ^^

message 1597: by Sophia (new)

Sophia James (sophia100) | 26 comments I have just finished The Boy on the Beach by Andrew Blair.
I thought it was excellent. I like characters that are not black and white and in this book no one is completely good and even the bad guys have a back story to explain why they are bad.
I like moral dilemmas too and this book asks questions about revenge and obsession.
I really liked it and hope there is a follow up.

message 1598: by Joanna (new)

Joanna (skavansieur) Just finished Beneath the Earth by R.S. Stone. It is a fast-paced thriller with a cute romance towards the end. Nothing makes me more excited than a main character who is brave and intelligent! Towards the middle part of the book, it was impossible to put down. You feel the thrill and the anxiety of what is beneath the earth.

You can read more about it here! http://skavansieur.blogspot.com/2018/...
