Finished The Hugo Winners 1963-1967 and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2087465827.
Just finished The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It's a powerful story that's timely. My book club is going to discuss it and I think it will provide fodder for a lively discussion.
Finished The Hugo Winners 1968-1970 and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2087465116.
I quit in the middle of MAYFLOWER by Nathaniel Philbrick—very dense, but I learned a ton about my radical Puritan ancestors. Just finished A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW by Amor Towles. This is, of course a big fat best seller. It's not going to change the world, but it sure is fun. Now reading A MAN CALLED OVE.
I read The Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine by Alina Bronsky. It was quite good, but I didn't think it was as good as Baba Dunja's Last Love.My review on goodreadshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Just finished, Mercedes Lackey's book, "Fortunate Fool" (Five Hundred Kingdoms, #3.)
A slow start, a better finish. I enjoy Mercedes Lackey's writing, however, I enjoy such a wide variety of writing styles and various genres that I only read one of her books occasionally. Just started reading, Daniel Silvia's book, "The Kill Artist."
A switch from just completed above book which is a moderately-light adult written Fairytale to a heavier-storyline of a modern day spy novel. This is my second book by Daniel Silva. I find his writing intriguing and written well.
Currently reading Patrick de Witt's The Sisters Brothers and I am really enjoying this on. Interesting note on the book; It was inspired by a Time-Life book on the California gold rush that De Witt found at a yard sale. Inspiration is anywhere and everywhere!
Read:Nightwings by Robert Silverberg - review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2094886576.
How Not to Write a Novel: 200 Classic Mistakes and How to Avoid Them—A Misstep-by-Misstep Guide - review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2098483122
I'm reading Seeing Red by Sandra Brown and absolutely loving her descriptions through thought and dialogue. I don't like a lot of narrative; I enjoy learning things through conversation, and this book has that. Trapper is hilarious, and Kerra is a girl whose personality I really admire. I can't put it down, and I've only just started it.
I finished The Pyramid by Ismail Kadare. It is ostensibly about the building of a pyramid for Pharaoh Cheops. But it is really about the tools of oppression used by totalitarian governments to keep the masses under control. It may not be for everyone, but I thought it was great. My review on goodreads

I am currently reading three weeks with my brother by Nicholas sparks
I just finished reading Alex Cavanaugh's CassaStorm, the third and final book in the Cassa series, and really enjoyed it. My review of CassaStorm can be found here.
Read another short story collection by Robert Sheckley, which also includes his novel, Immortality Inc - Robert Sheckley omnibus and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2103413460.
I just finished Beyond the Milky Way, read and reviewed per the author's request. I don't recommend it, and you can read my review here to find out why.
Sonya wrote: "11/22/63 by Stephen king. 5*"I've been curious about that one and am now putting it on my TBR shelf. Thanks!
I just finished reading GOOD ME BAD ME by Ali Land. Now I am starting on LAGUNA by Michael Putegnat.
I've just finished Who Let The Gods Out, by Maz Evans. Picked it up by chance at a World Book Night swapping session. A real find. A children's book, cross between Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams. Loved it.
Finished We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler, and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1837287820.
I finished The North Water by Ian McGuire, a historical novel set on a whaling vessel in the 1850s. I enjoyed it and recommend it if you are willing to tolerate the vulgarity and violence for the sake of authenticity. My review on goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
and on my website at www.tamaraaghajaffar.com
Finished Freaky Friday by Mary Rodgers and added a review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2106406012.
I'm reading another Tony Hillerman mystery,
. A quick and fun read that has touches of Indian culture that make the book worthwhile on top of the mystery.
Read Zinnia by Jayne Castle aka Jayne Ann Krentz and posted a review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2108841765.
My August 2017 book reviews post is up on my blog. If you want to see what I read in August, and read my reviews for the books in question, you can do so here: http://ziglernews.blogspot.co.uk/2017...
I just read Where'd You go Bernadette. It was light with quirky characters and unusual plot but a lot of warmth and fun, too.
I finished Dust by Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor. A challenging book. Fragments, flashbacks, no transitions, choppy sentences, etc. The style captures the trauma of a family dealing with a son's murder and intertwines their story with the political turmoil of Kenya from the 1950s and late '60s.
I struggled with it in the beginning, but once I got used to the style, I enjoyed it. It may not be for everyone because the writing is a bit of a challenge.

I'm well into The Sport of Kings and loving it! The title refers to thoroughbred breeding and racing, which I have absolutely no interest in, but the story is actually more about the interbreeding of people than of horses -- family legacies, rebellions and racism. The characters are fascinating and the writing is absolutely gorgeous. I'm so glad I didn't just dismiss this book thinking it was going to be about horses!
Now that I have finished The Wrath and the Dawn book, I'm moving onto to reading The Rose & the Dagger. I just started reading it, today!
Read book 3 in Jayne Castle's St Helen's trilogy, Orchid and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2108841818.
Not that enthralled by a Buffy the Vampire Slayer novel - Child of the Hunt - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2118262802.
Finished Benediction by Kent Haruf, the third book in the series about Holt, a fictional town in Colorado.A great novel. Haruf was a master at writing in an elegant, simple, clear style about characters who warm the heart. I loved the novel as much as I loved Plainsong (# 1) and Eventide (# 2).

I'm almost done reading The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks
I just finished Murder of a Journalist by Thomas Crowl. Fascinating story on the death of a newspaper journalist who was "a martyr in the fight for a free and crusading press". Murder of a Journalist
