Finished the eerie The Winter People. My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...Starting Throne of Glass
Finished
and have started
. Haven't gotten far enough to say much about it yet. Looks like a good one.
Forgot to say I finished Wilderness Tips by Margaret Atwood last Saturday and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1869024837.Just finished John Gordon's The Ghost On The Hill and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1844809694.
Just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I had mixed feelings about it and gave it three stars. My review on goodreadshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and on my website at www.tamaraaghajaffar.com
I'm currently reading Dreadnought and Strange the Dreamer. I recently finished A History Of Scotland, which I awarded four stars.
I have not long finished reading Falling Awake by Alice Oswald, a book of fine poems, which I have reviewed on Goodreads. It has been Shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot and the Costa Poetry Prize 2016.
Finished Margaret Atwood's The Blind Assassin and posted a review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1693679832.
I finished One Thousand and One Nights: A Retelling by Hanan al-Shaykh. Al-Shaykh selects 19 of the original stories and retells them. I had the read the tales in their entirety before but by a different translator. I think al-Shaykh's translation was more engaging and because of its limited selection, was better focused. I posted my review on my website at www.tamaraaghajaffar.com and on goodreads
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
(I write reviews so I can remember what I've read. The memory ain't what it used to be.)
Finished Paula Hawkins' The Girl on the Train and posted a review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1877789809
Slowly working my way through the collected works of HP Lovecraft. Good stuff but the font is too small! May be done with it by April as I can only handle 6-10 pages a night
Just published the fourth book in the Brain Bleed series. The Hemp Papers is out and available on Amazon or through me for a signed copy at a better price. jeff.crimmel@gmail.com
I just finished With Malice, by Eileen Cook. A young woman at the age of 18 wakes up in a hospital with a major headache and no recollection of a car accident she's been in. The book is super suspenseful, and chronicles her progress at regaining her memory, but also looks at how others view us. The ending was unpredictable and the book was written wonderfully!
I read Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks. Had been looking forward to it but found it very disappointing as I explained here - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1883937254
I just finished The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West (3.5/5, quite good) and am now just started The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson! :)
Finished Virginity or Death!: And Other Social and Political Issues of Our Time by Katha Pollitt, a compilation of articles she wrote for The Nation from 2001-2006. Although some of the essays were dated, I found much of what she had to say was still relevant. I loved her acerbic wit and style of writing. I posted my review on goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I am reading The Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig. I won The Fire Sermon, together with its sequel, The Map of Bones, in a Goodreads Giveaway, I am pleased to say. I was drawn to The Fire Sermon because I knew its title is that of one of the parts of The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot, and also because Francesca Haig is herself a poet. I always think it is interesting when a poet writes a novel. She writes well, in clear, flowing prose, with a poet's ear for words. A novel ought to be a work of art, after all, not just an account of events that happened to certain people.
I just finished Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard by Kiran Desai. I thought it was hilarious. It's got elements of magical realism in that weird things happen in the most mundane surroundings. Desai is a very talented writer. My review is on my website at www.tamaraaghajaffar.com and on goodreads
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Latest read and review, of a Diana Wynne Jones book - Deep Secret and review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1893696156

I just spent a few minutes reading what you are all reading and picked up some great ideas! I also enjoyed Girl in a Train (I must go over and review it). I'm just starting "the Good Sister" by Kyla Stone. It's a novelette
Yes enjoyed The Girl on a Train too Jennifer.Catching up with my reviews of recently read books - another DWJ, a sort of follow-up to Deep Secret - The Merlin Conspiracy- with my review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1893763482.

Pam wrote: "Finished Paula Hawkins' The Girl on the Train and posted a review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show..."I read that last year too... I am pretty sure I left a review, if not I will! :)
Recently started Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil: A Savannah Story. It was a Christmas gift and has proved really interesting so far.
Read and reviewed two books of TV and social criticism from the late 1960s/early 1970s by Harlan Ellison - The Glass Teat and The Other Glass Teat.
I finished reading Goblin Market and posted my review on goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...and on my website at www.tamaraaghajaffar.com
It is a lovely poem with a decidedly feminist orientation.
I finished both
and Your Lunch Smells Funny. The first was a delightful mystery and the 2nd was a fun spiritual memoir. I rated both books 5 stars.
Just finished

Just finished the thriller Kill the Father, which introduces a unique and fascinating pair of characters. Would highly recommend it. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished Buffalo Woman Comes Singing. It was not the best book I've read on Native American spirituality. My review on goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and on www.tamaraaghajaffar.com
