Jane Jago I'm just about to embark on Dorothy Dunnet's Crawford of Lymond series. I've read it piecemeal. Now I'm starting at one and going through to six. At least that's the plan...

message 509: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) | 165 comments I've done the Prologue and first chapter, and I feel drawn in. I know very little about Indian society and culture (the only information coming from two films: "Water" and "The Slumdog Millionaire") and the story has got me intrigued.

Have a look at my review Victoria if you want the detailed review of each story - the link in post 524 takes you to it. I only enjoyed 2 of the stories so I was only able to give the collection an 'ok' 2 star reading I'm afraid.

message 518: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 683 comments Just finished The Earth Witch by Louise Lawrence. Have read about 6 books by this YA writer of the 1960s-80s and this is by far the best.

It is a sudden shift to go from mystery and apocolypic novels (Benjamin Wallace and Andrew Mayne) to a dystopian future novel (Quinn's) but it has me hooked thus far.

message 530: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Garland | 417 comments I have just finished Greg Rigby's "The Jesus Phenomenon". An intriguing read in which Mr Rigby postulates that elements of Christianity such as monotheism, the concept of the Son of God, of Jesus being born of a virgin, his subsequent death and resurrection, were all were influenced by the God Kings of ancient Egypt, and indeed goes on the speculate as to whether Jesus was also descended from the Pharaohic line.
