Barcode not bringing up correct edition?

How does barcode scanning work? I scanned the barcode of my book and what came up was a Kindle edition published in 2009. I hold a physical hardcover copy published in 2008. Is that something that can be fixed, and if so, how?

It depends on the barcode. Older (before about 2012) ones may or may not actually correspond to the ISBN13.

What ISBN is on the back cover just above or below the barcode?

I would expect this edition to come up when you scan, but I gather that is not the case?

Since that edition does not have, nor has it ever had (I just checked its edit history), an ISBN associated with it, I don't think this is something Goodreads Librarians can assist you with. It may be something specific to this book, or may be more generally how the app works, but it does not appear to be based on the specific edition's data.
