Chapters 1-2: Not super impressed.... (view spoiler)[ We hit the ground running in Chapter 1 and I liked that, I thought the book would jump right into the action and explain the background info in bits and hints. But no, a few pages later it totally backpedals and we get a boring infodump. Kind of made for a sloppy start. But we'll see, I'm willing to keep going. (hide spoiler)]

Through Chapter 4: (view spoiler)[ I guess both Paul and Theo will turn out to be love interests (?). Is it weird that I'm already rooting for Paul? If have some issues with falling for villains.
Their age gave me pause. Should Marguerite really be flirting with her parents' older research assistants, I mean isn't she a teenager ? OR are her parents hiring assistants that are teenagers? Does anyone know how old Paul and Theo are bc this confounds me.

On the positive side, it's really cool how Marguerite gets to see other versions of her life, how she would have reacted if tragedy struck her family early in life. (hide spoiler)]

Honestly, if I had a Firebird at my disposal I would probably use it to get answers to all those what-if questions, e.g. "What if I'd chosen a different school, how would my life have turned out?" I can't think of another use... anyone?

Chapter 1-2: (view spoiler)[ Not a great start for me so far. The first chapter introduced like 5 characters and 1 device called the firebird with not much information. Then boom! Chapter 2: Info Dump Overload! It's an interesting idea for the story but I need to get further into it. The world is interesting. The layers of dimensions remind me of the Worldwalker trilogy. Actually they're very very similar. In the series, there are many different dimensions where you can have replicas of yourself and also each choice is made in a different dimension. (hide spoiler)]

Pretty much thought the exact same thing about the first two chapters! But now that I'm about halfway through and accustomed to the author's style the book is starting to get fun and emotional.

@Anna looks like Helen's starting to like it though. I think it'll be a fast read. I don't think it'll put you in a slump. I hope not at least. I'm going slow because of all the holiday stuff going on. Wanna read a set number of chapters with me? Maybe it'll help you keep up with work and still read.

The plot is a bit strangely set up but the emotion and characters are all in the right place! I'm liking it, I'm at about 80% now. I don't think you'd regret reading it, but we can start Twisted Palace instead if you like.

Finished it today! It was between 3 and 4 stars, entertaining but didn't really rise above the rest of the YA rubble in a special way.
(view spoiler)[ The "twist" with Theo wasn't super shocking. I thought Theo would turn evil following the YA trope where the jilted end of the love triangle gets bitter and mean (e.g. Adam in Shatter Me series), but it seems Theo was evil all along. I sort of suspected ever since Theo was adamant about Paul's guilt long after Meg thought him innocent.
My biggest issue with the book was that the villain's motivations were really unclear. So Conley wants to spy on/go to war with other dimensions. But why??? What is there to gain from that? Still baffles me. (hide spoiler)]

Actually I thought most of the book was pretty slow, up until the last few chapters.

The beginning seemed fast with her leaping through alternate dimensions and whatnot. The British her didn't last too long, but it seems she's going to be trapped in the Russian version of herself for a while.

I feel like this had so much potential and it didn’t really tap into it as much as it could’ve. It’s like, it was right there and this fell short for me unfortunately. I think I wasn’t into the romance, the plot was meh – I mean the triad as a antagonist doesn’t really motivate me. Even Theo not being her Theo wasn’t that shocking. I may just have someone I know tell me the ending to the trilogy instead of reading the next two.

Part 1
(view spoiler)[ Well… I really liked the first bit of this story! It catches you from the beginning. Why must she kill Paul Markov? We meet marguerite and find out that her father has been killed and that all evidence points to Paul, who is kind of like her brother, he was taken in by her parents and apparently he is a very smart physicists. We also meet Theo who is also an intern and much like Paul. We learn about the instrument called “Firebird” which allows for dimension travel, unlike time travel. Theo is set on following Paul and killing him for what he has done but Marguerite insists she must be the one to kill Paul as it was her father that was murdered. (hide spoiler)]

Part 2
(view spoiler)[ Marguerite finds herself in London and is devastated when she finds out that her whole family has died in a terrible accident. She was anxious to see her father alive in this dimension that never did she think her whole family would be dead. She finds Paul and is about to hurt him when he confronts her and she tells him about her dad and that she knows he is the one that killed him, Paul seems to be shocked at the news of her father’s death and seems to have received a huge blow, which makes me believe he is not the one that killed her father, but he gets away to another dimension with just a warning for Marguerite to go back to her own dimension. Ay Theo, just because you are in that body do you really have to take drugs, I think that was just an excuse it sounds like he already did when he was in his own dimension. This Wyatt Conley sounds so smart and like a big shot, Marguerite is star struck with him lol. (hide spoiler)]

Part 3
(view spoiler)[ This was my favorite and probably the saddest dimension that Marguerite traveled to. It is my favorite because she has brothers and a sister and she gets to see her father, even though her father appears to be her tutor, I also like it cuz she is a princess in this one, she is a Romanov, how exciting, in this dimension Paul is her guard and in this one he doesn’t really remember her from the other dimensions but he is in love with her. I liked the part about the egg. I didn’t like that they got attacked by Sergie because he was so power hungry! I did like that Marguerite and Paul got to spend time together, and did the deed, but in the end he died, that was the sad part. I also liked that we find out that the tutor is really her father in this dimension too. I liked that Marguerite told her father that in her real dimension him and her mother got to be together and happy and had another child, although they never got around to actually getting married because they were so busy with their project. Part 4
(view spoiler)[ So in the end we find out that that Evil Conley is in cahoots with himself from a different dimension, and we find out that Theo from another dimension is also working for Conley and together they want to get Marguerite to do their bidding since she is the only one that doesn’t need a reminder of who she is when she travels to different dimensions. In this one Theo and Marguerite go underwater in a sub to fix something that is wrong with the underwater ship her family is currently in. Her father gets a reminder of who he is in the main dimension and what is going on. Marguerite traps Theo in the sub and goes above in the escape pod and Paul helps her. I got a little confused in this ending but I guess marguerite is giving her dad Theo’s firebird so he could travel to the first dimension. (hide spoiler)]

This is pretty cool! I actually didnt know what it was about when I got it but I am really liking the multiple universe thing. It kind of reminds me of that tv show Rick and Morty but with less drunk grandpa.
